Peter Gary Menzies Jr., ASC ACS is an Australian cinematographer best known for his work on blockbuster action films such as Die Hard with a Vengeance , Lara Croft: Tomb Raider , The Incredible Hulk, and Clash of the Titans. [2] [3]
Menzies was born in Sydney. He was introduced to the film industry by his father, director and cinematographer Peter Menzies Sr. He started as a camera loader and worked his way through the ranks in commercials and features as a camera assistant and later as an operator, [4] working regularly under DPs David Gribble and Russell Boyd. He made his debut as cinematographer on White Sands, a crime film directed by Roger Donaldson and starring Willem Dafoe.
Since then, Menzies has worked mostly on action films like Die Hard with a Vengeance , Hard Rain and Shooter. He has collaborated with directors like John Singleton, Bruce Beresford, David Nutter, Simon West, John McTiernan, and Joel Schumacher.
Menzies became a member of the Australian Cinematographers Society in 1996, and the American Society of Cinematographers in 2024. [5] He is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and is the Chairman of the Board for the Grand Jury of the Cordillera International Film Festival in Reno/Tahoe Nevada. [6]

The cinematographer or director of photography is the person responsible for the recording of a film, television production, music video or other live-action piece. The cinematographer is the chief of the camera and light crews working on such projects. They would normally be responsible for making artistic and technical decisions related to the image and for selecting the camera, film stock, lenses, filters, etc. The study and practice of this field are referred to as cinematography.
Andrew Lesnie ACS ASC was an Australian cinematographer. He was best known as the cinematographer for The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001–2003) and its prequel The Hobbit trilogy (2012–2014), both directed by New Zealand director Peter Jackson. Peter Suschitzky, A.S.C. is a British cinematographer and photographer. Among his most known works as director of photography are The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Empire Strikes Back, and Mars Attacks! and the later films of David Cronenberg. Suschitzky succeeded Mark Irwin as Cronenberg's regular cinematographer when Irwin left during the pre-production of Dead Ringers (1988), and has been the cinematographer for all of Cronenberg's films since, with the exception of Crimes of the Future (2022).
