He is a native of Ardmore, Pennsylvania, and attended Saint Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia and the University of California, Berkeley. Cipollone won World Championships. in the heavyweight men's eight in 1997, 1998, and 1999.

Péter Biros is a Hungarian former water polo player, who played on the gold medal squads at the 2000 Summer Olympics, 2004 Summer Olympics and 2008 Summer Olympics, which makes him one of six male athletes who won three Olympic gold medals in water polo. Peter Kevin Maher is a former Canadian marathon runner who competed mainly in the 1990s. He was a resident of Thornhill, a suburb of Toronto. He was credited for a brief period with the world record time for 25 km. Maher represented Canada in the Olympic men's marathons in Seoul, 1988 and Barcelona, 1992. He is said to be the originator of the quote "Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, 'Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today." Maher also now runs a Sports Therapy Clinic in Carrigaline, Cork, Ireland.

The men's coxed four competition at the 1952 Summer Olympics took place at Mei Bay, Helsinki, Finland. It was held from 20 to 23 August and was won by the team from Czechoslovakia. There were 17 boats from 17 nations, with each nation limited to a single boat in the event. The gold medal was Czechoslovakia's first medal in the men's coxed four. Switzerland earned its third consecutive silver medal, and sixth medal in seven Games dating back to 1920. The reigning champion United States took bronze.
The men's eight (M8+) competition at the 1984 Summer Olympics took place at Lake Casitas in Ventura County, California, United States. It was held from 31 July to 5 August. There were 7 boats from 7 nations, with each nation limited to a single boat in the event. New Zealand had won the last two world championships, and the other strong team, East Germany, was absent from the event due to the Eastern Bloc boycott. This made New Zealand the strong favourite. But the final was won by Canada, with the United States and Australia the other medallists, and New Zealand coming a disappointing fourth.
Claas-Peter Fischer is a German rower. He competed in the men's coxless four event at the 1996 Summer Olympics.
