The International Court of Justice,or colloquially the World Court,is the only international court that adjudicates general disputes between nations,and gives advisory opinions on international legal issues. It is one of the six organs of the United Nations (UN),and is located in The Hague,Netherlands.

He served as a judge on the International Court of Justice from 6 February 2003 until 7 June 2018,and was president of the court from 2009 to 2012. He is the father of Empress Masako and the father-in-law of the incumbent Emperor of Japan,Naruhito.
Shi Jiuyong was a Chinese judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Shi was elected to the ICJ on 6 February 1994,and became President nine years later on 6 February 2003. In 2010,he announced his resignation from the Court effective on 28 May 2010.

Stephen Myron Schwebel,is an American jurist and international judge,counsel and arbitrator. He previously served as judge of the World Bank Administrative Tribunal (2010–2017),as a member of the U.S. National Group at the Permanent Court of Arbitration,as president of the International Monetary Fund Administrative Tribunal (1993–2010),as president of the International Court of Justice (1997–2000),as vice president of the International Court of Justice (1994–1997),and as Judge of the International Court of Justice (1981–2000). Prior to his tenure on the ICJ,Schwebel served as deputy legal adviser to the U.S. Department of State (1974–1981) and as assistant legal adviser to the U.S. Department of State (1961–1967). He also served as a professor of law at Harvard Law School (1959–1961) and Johns Hopkins University (1967–1981). Schwebel is noted for his expansive opinions in momentous cases such as Legality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapons, Military and Paramilitary Activities in and Against Nicaragua and Oil Platforms.
Antônio Augusto Cançado Trindade was a Brazilian jurist and international judge. He was appointed as judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) from 6 February 2009. He was reelected to the Court in December 2017,and took office for his second term on 6 February 2018,serving until his death in 2022.

From 1990 to 1992 Crawford was Dean of the Sydney Law School where he was also the Challis Professor of International Law from 1986 to 1992. From 1992 to 2014,he was Whewell Professor of International Law at the University of Cambridge and Fellow in Law at Jesus College,Cambridge. He was formerly Director of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law,also at Cambridge.
Mohamed Bennouna is a Moroccan diplomat and jurist. He worked as a professor at the Mohammed V University,as a permanent representative of his native country at the United Nations from 1998 to 2001,as a Judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia,and as a judge of the International Court of Justice from 2006 to 2024.
Xue Hanqin is a Chinese jurist at the International Court of Justice. On 29 June 2010,she was elected to fill the vacancy created by Shi Jiuyong's resignation on 28 May 2010. She is one of three female judges serving on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and one of only four women elected as members of the Court to date. Xue is the fifth Chinese judge at the ICJ,and the third representing the People's Republic of China.
Joan E. Donoghue is an American lawyer,international legal scholar,former U.S. State Department official,and former president of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). She was first elected to the court in 2010,re-elected in 2014,and elected by the ICJ judges to be president of the ICJ in 2021. She was the third woman to be elected to the ICJ and the first American woman elected as president of the court.
Julia Sebutinde is a Ugandan jurist. She is currently serving her second term on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) following her re-election on 12 November 2020. She also is the current chancellor of Muteesa I Royal University,a university owned by Buganda kingdom. She has been a judge on the court since March 2012. She is the first African woman to sit on the ICJ. Before being elected to the ICJ,Sebutinde was a judge of the Special Court for Sierra Leone. She was appointed to that position in 2007.
The 2011 International Court of Justice election began on 10 November 2011 at United Nations Headquarters in New York City. In the set of triennial elections,the General Assembly and the Security Council concurrently elect five judges to the Court for nine-year terms,in this case beginning on 6 February 2012. From the eight candidates,the five winners were Giorgio Gaja (Italy),Hisashi Owada (Japan),Peter Tomka (Slovakia),Xue Hanqin (China) and Julia Sebutinde (Uganda).

He is also extraordinary professor at the Public Law Department of the University of Stellenbosch. He has served as the Principal State Law Adviser for International Law for the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation and Legal Counsellor to the South Africa Mission to the United Nations.
Sean David Murphy is an American international law scholar and practitioner currently serving as the Manatt/Ahn Professor of International Law at the George Washington University Law School in Washington,D.C.,where he has been teaching since 1998. His primary areas of scholarly research are public international law,foreign affairs and the Constitution of the United States,international organizations,international dispute settlement,and law of the sea. Murphy served for ten years on the Board of Editors of the American Journal of International Law and is a former president of the American Society of International Law. He was elected twice by the United Nations General Assembly to serve as a Member of the U.N. International Law Commission (ILC) during 2012-2022. He was named by the ILC as Special Rapporteur for Crimes Against Humanity,a topic on which he has lectured widely.

From the eight candidates,Yuji Iwasawa (Japan),Xue Hanqin (China),Peter Tomka (Slovakia),Julia Sebutinde (Uganda),and Georg Nolte (Germany) have been elected members of the International Court of Justice for a term of office of nine years,as both the Security Council and the General Assembly have agreed on the same candidates.
