As Australian captain from 1997 to 2004,he led Australia to fifteen of their record sixteen consecutive Test wins,and to victory in the 1999 Cricket World Cup. The South Africa national cricket team toured Australia in the 1993–94 season to play three test matches against Australia in Melbourne,Sydney and Adelaide. These were played from 26 December 1993 to 1 February 1994. The tour was the first made by the South Africa cricket team to Australia in 30 years and was undertaken as the apartheid system was being dismantled in South Africa and the country transitioned to democratic government.
