Philip Allen Emery (born 25 June 1964) is a former Australian cricketer. A wicket-keeper and valuable left-handed batsman,he represented Australia internationally and New South Wales domestically.
Born in St Ives,Sydney,Emery was educated at Newington College Preparatory School,Lindfield (1969–72), [1] and Shore School,North Sydney (1973–1982). At Shore,he was captain of cricket and captain of rugby and subsequently represented GPS teams in both sports. He was also a very good swimmer and diver in his early school years. Emery represented Gordon at the Sydney Grade Cricket level. He then made his debut for the New South Wales Cricket team during the 1987–88 season replacing the previous wicketkeeper Greg Dyer.
Emery captained New South Wales to their 42nd Sheffield Shield title during the 1993–94 season while regular captain Mark Taylor was absent representing Australia.
He played in one Test and one ODI,both in Pakistan relieving Ian Healy who was out due to injury. [2] This makes Emery only the third wicket-keeper (together with the long-serving Healy and Adam Gilchrist) to keep wicket in an Australian Test cricket team to Shane Warne (1992–2007) and Glenn McGrath (1993–2007) during their long Test careers.
Emery's cricket career is marked by notable achievements,including his record-breaking 378 dismissals in NSW First Class cricket and an additional 81 in One-Day matches. As captain,he led NSW to their 41st and 42nd Sheffield Shield titles in the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons. A key player in multiple title-winning teams,Emery scored over 3,000 first-class runs,including 17 fifties and a century,averaging over 26 runs. His career is celebrated for both his leadership and skill on the field. [3]
After retiring from cricket,Emery became a corporate risk advisor and insurance broker. He is currently an Authorized Representative and a Director at Gow-Gates Insurance Brokers (Australasia) Pty Ltd. [4] He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Diploma in Financial Services,and is recognized on the Mosman Municipal Council Sporting Wall of Fame. [5]
Allan Robert Border is an Australian cricket commentator and former international cricketer. A batsman,Border was for many years the captain of the Australian team,and led his team to victory in the 1987 Cricket World Cup,the maiden world title for Australia. His playing nickname was "A.B.". He played 156 Test matches in his career,a record until it was passed by fellow Australian Steve Waugh. Border formerly held the world record for the number of consecutive Test appearances of 153,before it was surpassed in June 2018 by Alastair Cook,and is second on the list of number of Tests as captain.
Ian Andrew Healy is an Australian former international cricketer who played for Queensland domestically. A wicketkeeper and right-hand middle-order batsman,he first played international cricket in 1988,after six first-class games. Over the next decade,Healy was a member of the side as it enjoyed a period of success. By the time of his retirement,Healy held the world record for most Test dismissals by a wicket-keeper. He was a part of the Australian squad which finished as runners-up at the 1996 Cricket World Cup.
John Anthony Eales is an Australian former rugby union player and the most successful captain in the history of Australian rugby. In 1999,he became one of the first players to win multiple Rugby World Cups.
Belinda Jane Clark is an Australian former cricketer and sports administrator. A right-handed batter,she served as the captain of the national women's team for eleven years and was a member of triumphant World Cup campaigns in 1997 and 2005. The first player to record a double century in the One Day International (ODI) format of the game,Clark has scored the most runs and captained the most matches of any Australian woman in ODIs. He played domestically for New South Wales as a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper. Haddin was a member of the Australian World cup winning squad at both the 2007 Cricket World Cup the 2015 Cricket World Cup and played for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League.
Nicholas Campbell Farr-Jones AM is a former Australian rugby union player,who played as a scrum-half. He debuted for the Australia national team during the 1984 tour of Britain and Ireland. Farr-Jones was named "Player of the Series" for the 1986 tour of New Zealand,where Australia became the sixth team to win a test series there. He was appointed captain of the Wallabies in 1988 and is best known for leading the team to victory in the 1991 Rugby World Cup. Farr-Jones retired from international rugby in 1992 but briefly returned in 1993 for the Bledisloe Cup and a series against South Africa. Rachael Louise Haynes is an Australian former international cricketer who has won six world championships as a member of the national women's team. A left-handed batter,Haynes was vice-captain of Australia from 2017 to 2022. Peter Michael Nevill is an Australian former cricketer who played 17 Tests and 9 T20 internationals for Australia. He also represented New South Wales and the Melbourne Stars,having previously played for the Melbourne Renegades and the Sydney Sixers. He was Australia's regular Test wicket-keeper from the second test of 2015 Ashes series until being dropped in November 2016. He made his Twenty20 International debut for Australia against South Africa on 4 March 2016. He retired in April 2022.
