Artistic gymnastics is a discipline of gymnastics in which athletes perform short routines on different apparatuses, with less time for vaulting. The sport is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG), which designs the code of points and regulates all aspects of elite international competition. Within individual countries, gymnastics is regulated by national federations, such as Gymnastics Canada, British Gymnastics, and USA Gymnastics. Artistic gymnastics is a popular spectator sport at many competitions, including the Summer Olympic Games.
Marian Drăgulescu is a Romanian artistic gymnast. During his senior gymnastics career he has won an impressive 31 medals at Olympic games, and World or European Championships, of which eight are gold medals at the World Championships. He excels in vault and floor, on which he is a multiple world champion and Olympic medalist. His name will remain in gymnastics history not only because of his world titles on floor and vault, but also because of the extremely difficult vault named after him: a handspring double front somersault with ½ turn or the Drăgulescu. He is also an excellent all-around gymnast, an event in which he was a European champion (2004) and bronze medalist (2000) and in which he placed 8th at the 2004 Olympic Games.
Vanessa Ferrari is an Italian artistic gymnast. She was the 2006 World All-Around Champion and competed for Italy at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympics. She won different medals in both Worlds and European championships since the beginning of her career.
Steliana Nistor is a Romanian former artistic gymnast. She was a key member of the Romanian team between 2006 and 2008, where she helped the Romania win team bronze medals at the 2007 World Championships and the 2008 Olympics. Individually, she is the 2007 world all-around and beam silver medallist, the 2007 and 2008 European silver medallist on the uneven bars and the 2007 bronze medallist on the balance beam. Nistor was a strong all-around competitor but her best events were balance beam and uneven bars.
Fabian Hambüchen is a retired German gymnast who was Olympic, World and European champion. Fabian also won gold medals at European Games and at 2015 Summer Universiade. He has a full set of Olympics medals, one in each colour, as he is the 2016 Olympic champion, 2012 Olympic silver medalist and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist on the individual horizontal bar event. He became World champion on horizontal bars in 2007 Stuttgart.
Yuri Sergeyevich Ryazanov was a Russian artistic gymnast. He was the 2009 World All-Around bronze medalist, the 2009 Russian All-Around national champion, and the 2007 & 2009 European All-Around bronze medalist. He was a member of the Russian teams that won the gold medals at the 2008 European Men's Artistic Gymnastics Championships and silver at the 2006 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Ryazanov competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, placing 17th in the All-Around qualification.
The men's horizontal bar competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics was held on 9 and 19 August at the Beijing National Indoor Stadium. The eight competitors with the highest scores in qualifying proceeded to the men's horizontal bar finals. There, each gymnast performed again; the scores from the final round determined final ranking. There were 76 competitors from 27 nations that competed on the horizontal bar, with nations in the team event entering up to 5 gymnasts while other nations could enter up to 2. The event was won by Zou Kai of China, the nation's first victory in the horizontal bar. Jonathan Horton won silver, the United States' second consecutive Games with a silver medalist in the horizontal bar. Germany's Fabian Hambüchen won the first of his three medals in the event with bronze.
Kōhei Uchimura is a Japanese artistic gymnast. He is a seven-time Olympic medalist, winning three golds and four silvers, and a twenty-one-time World medalist.
Elena Leușteanu-Popescu was a Romanian artistic gymnast who competed at the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics. During her career she won three Olympic bronze medals, one world bronze medal and five continental silver medals. She was the first Romanian artistic gymnast to win an individual Olympic medal.
Melitina Dmitryevna Staniouta is a Belarusian retired individual rhythmic gymnast. She is a three-time World all-around bronze medalist, the 2015 European Games all-around bronze medalist, the 2014 European Championships all-around silver medalist, and 2009 Grand Prix Final all-around bronze medalist.
The men's artistic individual all-around was a competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom. The event was held at the North Greenwich Arena 1 on 28 July and 1 August 2012. There were 41 competitors from 27 nations, counting only those gymnasts who performed on all six apparati during the qualifying round. The event was won by Kōhei Uchimura of Japan, the nation's first victory in the men's all-around since 1984 and fifth overall. Uchimura was the 14th man to earn multiple all-around medals, adding to his 2008 silver. Germany's Marcel Nguyen earned silver, the first men's all-around medal for a German gymnast since the 1936 Games in Berlin. Danell Leyva of the United States took bronze.
The men's parallel bars competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom was held at the North Greenwich Arena 1 on 28 July and 7 August. There were 71 competitors from 33 nations. The event was won by Feng Zhe of China, the nation's second consecutive victory in the parallel bars and third overall. Marcel Nguyen's silver was the first medal for united Germany in the event since 1936 and the first for any German gymnast in the parallel bars since 1988. Hamilton Sabot earned France's first parallel bars medal with his bronze.
David Sagitovich Belyavskiy is a Russian artistic gymnast. He is a two-time Olympic medalist, winning a silver medal in the team final and a bronze medal on parallel bars at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the 2017 world silver medalist on pommel horse and 2017 world bronze medalist on parallel bars. He is also a six-time European Champion and 16-time European Championships medalist, including being the 2013 European all-around champion, 2016 European parallel bars champion, 2017 European pommel horse champion and being part of the winning Russian teams at the 2014 European Championships, the 2016 European Championships, and the 2018 European Championships.
Elisabeth Seitz is a German artistic gymnast. She is the 2018 World bronze medalist on the uneven bars, where she is known for her exciting routines. She is one of the only female gymnasts in history to compete the Def release, and her eponymous skill, a full-twisting Maloney called the Seitz, is the most difficult transition element on the apparatus. Seitz has also had success in the individual all-around event, where she is the 2011 European silver medalist and a five-time German national champion. A two-time Olympian, she represented Germany at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where she led her team to a sixth-place finish and placed fourth in the uneven bars final.
Marcel Van Minh Phuc Long Nguyen is a German artistic gymnast. He is the 2012 Olympic silver medalist in the all-around and on parallel bars as well as the 2011 and 2012 European Champion on the latter. He has been a soldier in the Bundeswehr since July 2007, beginning when he was training in the Bundeswehr Sports Development Group in Munich.
Kim Bui is a German artistic gymnast who represented Germany at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. She is the 2009 and 2014 German National Champion and the 2011 European bronze medalist on the uneven bars.
Ivan Alexeyevich Stretovich is a Russian artistic gymnast. He won a silver medal in the team event at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The event was won by Fabian Hambüchen of Germany, the nation's first victory in the horizontal bar since 1996 and third overall. Danell Leyva won the United States' third silver medal in four Games in the event; Nile Wilson's bronze was Great Britain's first-ever medal in the horizontal bar.
Oréane Caroline Marie Lechenault is a retired French female artistic gymnast. She finished fourth alongside her teammates at the 2016 Gymnastics Olympic Test Event in Rio de Janeiro, and she represented France at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She won a bronze medal in the team final at the 2016 European Championships.
The Final Five was the United States women's team in artistic gymnastics that won the team event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. It was the United States' third gold medal in the event and second outside the United States. The five members of the team were Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian, and Aly Raisman, with MyKayla Skinner, Ragan Smith, and Ashton Locklear serving as the three alternates. After the team event, Biles won a gold medal in the individual all-around event, the vault, and on floor exercise and won a bronze on the balance beam; The previous team to medal in every event, including the team and individual all-around, was the Unified Team at the 1992 Games; the only previous U.S. team to do so was at the boycott-reduced 1984 Games.
