The Philippine Bowling Federation (PBF) is a duly-accredited governing body of Tenpin Bowling in the Philippines. PBF is currently recognized by the Philippine Olympic Committee, [1] Philippine Sports Commission, Asian Bowling Federation, [2] and International Bowling Federation. [3]
In 2016, the Philippine Bowling Federation Inc. "PBF" replaced the now-defunct Philippine Bowling Congress PBC as the appointed member of the international bowling federation World Bowling, Asian Bowling Federation [4] Philippine Olympic Committee (POC). [5]
PBF was a predecessor of PBC, founded initially by Ernesto "Toti" Lopa in 1968 [6] and registered with SEC in 2016. Headed by pillars of Philippine bowling, such as Former national bowler, incumbent Senator Vicente Sotto III is the federation's Chairman, Steve Robles is currently its president, and Secretary General is Olivia "Bong" Coo.[3] Paeng Nepomuceno, also a PBF Trustee led the coaching staff of the Philippine national bowling team. Other founders are world champion Biboy Rivera, Asian champion Rene Reyes. With original Philippine Bowling Congress Inc. incorporator Cas King, Alex Lim, Stephen Hontiveros, Salome Lopa and Gina Avecilla. Athletes, coaches, proprietors, seniors, and the youth are all represented in PBF, which is the current objective of the International Bowling Federation.
In March 2016, the POC appointed Paeng Nepomuceno as the head coach of the Philippine national bowling team. With Paeng, the only Asian Gold level coach of USBC as head coach, supported by World Champion Biboy Rivera, SEAG Masters Champion Jojo Canare, longtime coach Johnson Cheng and Rey Reyes, PBF boast of a team of 100% Filipino coaches who now conducts regular seminars and quality training. The federation's first tournament was the 2016 PBF National Championships at the Coronado Lanes, Mandaluyong on December 3–4, 2016 which was attended by top PBF officials who are also doing the ceremonial serve before the start of the competition. [3] [8]
In May, 2016, PBF coaches Paeng, Biboy Rivera and Jojo Canare were invited to the second World Bowling Coach Conference held at the International Training & Research Center in Arlington, Texas where bowling coaches from around the world participated to synchronize and advance the sport worldwide.
PBF hosted The Philippine International Open in 2017, [9] 2018 [10] [11] and 2019 [12] at the Coronado Lanes in Starmall Edsa Mandaluyong. The event is an Asian Bowling Federation ranking. it was participated in by bowlers from host Philippines, Australia, Bahrain, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Guam U.S.A. and Filipino bowlers residing or working overseas. PBF also hosted 19th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships in October 2017 at Corodano Lanes, Starmall EDSA in Mandaluyong. The tournament returned to the Philippines after 19 years.
In 2017, PBF has produced the first ever silver medals in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Ashgabat [13] courtesy of Kenneth Chua in Men Singles and in Women Team of Five and after 39 years the Philippines regained the QubicaAmf Bowling World Cup Women's title with Krizziah Tabora in Hermosillo, Mexico. PBF also hosted 19th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships [15] in October 2017 at Corodano Lanes, Starmall EDSA in Mandaluyong. The tournament returned to the Philippines after 19 years.
Rafael "Paeng" Villareal Nepomuceno Filipino bowler and coach who is a six time World bowling champion. He is a World Bowling Hall of Famer and is the first and only bowling athlete to be awarded with the prestigious IOC President's Trophy. He was also named International Bowling Athlete of the Millennium by the FIQ in 1999 and was inducted in the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
The QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup, previously known as the International Masters and AMF Bowling World Cup, is an annual Ten-pin bowling championship sponsored by QubicaAMF Worldwide, and the largest in bowling in terms of number of participating nations. Each nation chooses one male and/or one female bowler to represent them in the tournament, and in the majority of cases, this is done by running a qualifying tournament, the winners of which are chosen.
International Bowling Federation (IBF), known as the Fédération Internationale des Quilleurs (FIQ) from 1952 to April 2014) and as World Bowling (WB) from April 2014 to November 2020, is the world governing body of nine-pin and ten-pin bowling. IBF was founded in 1952 in Hamburg, Germany by officials of the International Bowling Association to foster worldwide interest in amateur ten-pin and nine-pin bowling, as well as international friendship by encouraging world and zone tournaments and other competition between bowlers of different countries. IBF has been recognized by the International Olympic Committee since 1979 as the governing body for bowling sports. Starting with five member federations in 1952, it grew to 141 in 2010.
The World Ranking Masters was ten-pin bowling's international ranking system, as with professional tennis. It was governed by the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA). The rankings were formulated at the end of the three international tours, the European, Americas and Asian tours.
The World Tenpin Bowling Championships is a global event that invites all countries that are members of International Bowling Federation to participate.
Shalin Zulkifli is a Malaysian professional ten pin bowler. She has played and won various national and international tournaments, and has at various points in her career ranked No. 1 of the professional ten pin bowlers in Malaysia and Asia.
Olivia "Bong" Coo is a Filipino sports administrator and retired professional bowler. She is regarded as the most decorated Filipino athlete. As a member of the Philippine national team, she has amassed a total of 78 medals won in regional and world competitions, 37 of which were gold medals. She is a 4-time world champion and a World Bowling Hall of Fame and Philippine Sports Hall of Fame member.
The PSA Athlete of the Year is given by the Philippine Sportswriters Association to the best Filipino athletes annually. It is part of the PSA's Annual Awards Night, one of the most prestigious sport-related awards in the Philippines.
Lita dela Rosa was a Filipino 4-time World champion in Tenpin Bowling from Cebu, Philippines. She was posthumously inducted in the World Bowling Hall of Fame and in the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
The Philippine Bowling Congress Inc. or more popularly known as Philippine Bowling Congress and PBC was the governing body for tenpin bowling in the Philippines from 1977 to 2016. The Philippine Bowling Federation Inc.PBF replaced it as the appointed member of the International Bowling Federation (IBF), Asian Bowling Federation (ABF), and Philippine Olympic Committee (POC). in 2016.
Engelberto "Biboy" Rivera is a world-champion Ten-pin bowler from the Philippines. He has won the WTBA World Tenpin Bowling Championships in 2006 and the Asian Games gold medal for men's singles bowling in 2010. Rivera is also the recipient of the Philippine Sportswriters' Association (PSA) Athlete of the Year Award twice.
Arianne Cerdeña is a Filipino ten-pin bowling player. She is best known for winning the first gold medal for the Philippines in the Summer Olympics; albeit in a demonstration event hence the medal won was not counted in the official medal tally. She won the medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. She is elected to the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame in March 2021.

The awards is organized by the Philippine Sportswriters Association, a Philippine-based media organization composed of sports writers and reporters, section editors and columnists from print and online media. PSA is headed by Eduardo "Dodo" Catacutan of Sports Interactive Network Philippines.

Oliver "Ollie" Opeda Ongtawco was a Filipino bowler who represented the Philippines in international tournaments from the 1970s to the 1980s. He was the gold medalist of the men's single event of the 1979 FIQ WTBA World Tenpin Bowling Championships held at the Celebrity Sports Plaza in Quezon City out-besting Rogelio Felice of Venezuela. He also clinched the silver medal in the 1983 edition of the same event in Caracas, Venezuela in the trio event with Paeng Nepomuceno and Rauel Reformado and was also a participant of 1975 World Cup in Makati.
Carol Gianotti of Perth is a female Australian ten-pin bowler. She is a member of the Professional Women's Bowling Association (PWBA) Hall of Fame in 2020, the Tenpin Bowling Australia Hall of Fame in 2016 and the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Hall of Fame in 2011. She has won sixteen professional women's bowling titles before being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011. Gianotti had a professional career that lasted from 1989 to 2000. She inspired other Australians and women abroad to join the professional tour.
Cara Honeychurch of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia is a female world champion tenpin bowler. She won the AMF Bowling World Cup in 1996 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and voted Bowler of the Year by the World Bowling Writers the same year. She was inducted to the World Bowling Writers' International Hall of Fame in 1998.
Liza del Rosario is a Filipino ten-pin bowling player. She won the Trios Gold medal at the 2003 World Championships in Kuala Lumpur. It was the first gold medal for the Philippines in the world championships in 20 years. She won the Singles and All Events gold medals at the 17th Asian Championships in Hong Kong in 2002.
