Equestrianism, commonly known as horse riding or horseback riding, includes the disciplines of riding, driving, and vaulting. This broad description includes the use of horses for practical working purposes, transportation, recreational activities, artistic or cultural exercises, and competitive sport.
A horse show is a judged exhibition of horses and ponies. Many different horse breeds and equestrian disciplines hold competitions worldwide, from local to the international levels. Most horse shows run from one to three days, sometimes longer for major, all-breed events or national and international championships in a given discipline or breed. Most shows consist of a series of different performances, called classes, wherein a group of horses with similar training or characteristics compete against one another for awards and, often, prize money.
The Philippines competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States. The 12-athlete delegation to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics competed in athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, shooting and swimming. This was the last Olympic games where the Philippines brought home a medal, a silver by boxer Mansueto Velasco, until weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and eventually the country's first gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
The United States Equestrian Federation is the national governing body for most equestrian sports in the United States. It began on January 20, 1917, as the Association of American Horse Shows, later changed to the American Horse Shows Association (AHSA). In 2001, the organization changed its name to USA Equestrian (USAE) and, in 2003 it merged with the United States Equestrian Team (USET). In 2017, USEF rebranded as US Equestrian. In 2019, USEF outsourced its laboratory services to the University of Kentucky.
The 1983 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 12th Southeast Asian Games, or informally Singapore 1983, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held in Singapore from 28 May to 6 June 1983. Scheduled to be hosted by Brunei in accordance to the renewed alphabetical rotation of hosting duties, the 1983 SEA Games were offered to be hosted by Singapore as Brunei prepared for its forthcoming independence from the United Kingdom. The games also marked the return of Cambodia, as People's Republic of Kampuchea after an 8-year-long absence since the Khmer Rouge seized power in 1975.
The events of the Equestrian at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games featured the equestrian discipline jumping. The discipline was divided into individual and team contests. It was the only event open to all genders.
Equestrian and Equestrian Endurance were contested at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. Equestrian was contested from 4 to 14 December.
The Philippines participated in the 2002 Asian Games held in Busan, South Korea from September 29 to October 14, 2002. Ranked 18th with 3 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 16 bronze medals with a total of 26 over-all medals.
An equestrian drill team is a group of horses and riders performing choreographed maneuvers to music. Teams typically perform at rodeos, horse fairs, parades, benefits, and drill team competitions. Drill teams are intended to entertain, show sportsmanship, horsemanship, teamwork and dedication. Competition drill at the national level is a controlled ride and has continuous forward motion. Some competition venues have set up special divisions of competition to provide for novice, rodeo, youth, gaited and special effects such as theme and drama. Theme drill provides a division that allows teams to showcase their uniforms, horse ability, music, and inclusions of trick riding or other variations.
Marie Antoinette Sarangaya "Toni" Leviste, is a Filipina equestrian athlete. Leviste represented the Philippines in international competitions, such as the FEI World Cup Show, the Southeast Asian Games, the Asian games and the Summer Olympics. Leviste has also been awarded the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Rider of the Year award from 1992 until 2005.
Denise Yabut-Cojuangco is an equestrienne from the Philippines. Cojuangco represented the country in show jumping in the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics.
Equestrian was contested at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan Equestrian Grounds, Busan, South Korea. Equestrian was contested from 2 to 14 October. There were three equestrian disciplines: dressage, eventing and jumping. All three disciplines are further divided into individual and team contests for a total of six events.
Nina Ligon, Thai name Rujiraporn Lamsam Ligon is a Thai-American equestrian, who competed for Thailand in the Individual eventing at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She was the first female equestrian to represent an Asian country in the equestrian events at the Olympic Games.

These sports include the FEI-recognized disciplines of dressage, eventing, show jumping, vaulting, endurance, reining, para-equestrian, and driving, with the non-FEI discipline of tentpegging. SAEF also develops and enforces the rules for other events at horse shows.

Ellesse Jordan Gundersen is a Filipino equestrian athlete. She competed at the 2018 World Equestrian Games and at the 2018 World Cup Final aboard her horse Triviant. She became the first Filipino athlete to compete at the major dressage championships.
The Tokyo Equestrian Park is an equestrian sport venue located in Setagaya, Tokyo. The venue is owned by the Japan Racing Association and is a public park all year round, known familiarly as 'Horse Park'.
The Asian Equestrian Federation (AEF) is the governing body of equestrian in Asia. It is one of the five continental confederations making up the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI). AEF was formed in 1978 in Bangkok (Thailand). AEF has headquarters in Doha, Qatar and consists of 35 member federations.
