Phoenix FM, also known as Central Victorian Community Broadcasters Incorporated (CVCB), is an Australian community radio station based in Bendigo, Victoria.
The inaugural meeting of Phoenix FM was held on 10 April 2007. [1] Phoenix FM was granted a temporary licence for two weeks of test broadcasting from 7 January 2008. [2] It was granted a second test broadcast period for two weeks from 8 to 21 June 2008. It was then granted a third test broadcast from 6pm on 28 September to midnight on 6 October 2008. A further extension to this was granted from October 2008 to March 2009 in a time-share arrangement with 89.5 Fresh FM. This occurred after a battle with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), who were proposing to use the frequency used by both Phoenix FM and Fresh FM for political broadcasts.
Phoenix FM's first outside broadcast was a call of the Bendigo Pioneers game from Country Vet Oval, Golden Square. [3] Phoenix FM began to stream their shows over the Internet in mid-2008.

Australian radio audiences have had virtually no exposure to pirate radio. There were no broadcasts as part of the World War II propaganda campaigns and commercial as well as community stations alongside the taxpayer funded Australian Broadcasting Corporation were available during the mid to late 1980s and early 1990s - a period when the UK was experiencing a surge in illegal broadcasts during the early days of acid house and the Second Summer of Love. The absence of pirate radio in Australia is primarily attributed to the relatively large number of commercial licences that were issued, particularly after World War 2, as well as the existence of public non-commercial broadcasting licenses supported mainly by listener subscription. Additionally, the lack of availability of imported broadcasting equipment and the likely application of severe, legislated penalties including jail for offenders, would also have been a factor.
Subcity Radio is a non-profit freeform radio station, arts collective and events promoter based at the University of Glasgow which is run by volunteers from the University and local community with the aim of providing an alternative to commercial and mainstream radio providers. It currently broadcasts online year round and until September 2009 also on temporary short-term FM Restricted Service Licence broadcasts. The station also hosts a large catalogue of audio for on-demand listening and podcasting, including recordings of the live stream, sessions, interviews, news and live recordings. Off-air, Subcity runs various events and club nights throughout the year, with previous venues including the Sub Club, Art School, Research Club and The Arches.
