Pietra Adao Tordin (born March 30, 2004) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for Portland Thorns FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She played college soccer for the Princeton Tigers. She played youth international friendlies for Brazil before winning bronze with the United States at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

Early life and college career

Tordin's parents, Fábio and Cristina, emigrated from Brazil to the United States in 2003. [3] She was raised in the Miami suburb of Doral, Florida, where she played soccer on boys' teams growing up because there was no nearby team for girls; at age 14, she joined a girls' team that was a 40-minute drive away. [2] [4] She quit soccer for a year during high school before returning with her school team at Doral Academy and played ECNL club soccer for Sunrise Prime FC. [2] [4]

Tordin's grandfather Dionisio (known as Nin), her great-grandfather Atílio, and her great-great-uncle Osvaldo were amateur footballers. The trio played for local side Ribeiro Futebol Clube in Valinhos. [5]

Princeton Tigers

Tordin became a starter for the Princeton Tigers by the end of her freshman season in 2022. She led her team in scoring with eight goals, the first Princeton freshman to do so since Tyler Lussi in 2017, and was named the Ivy League rookie of the year. [2] She scored 12 goals in her sophomore year in 2023, second-most in the Ivy League, and was named to the All-Ivy first team and United Soccer Coaches All-American third team alongside senior teammate Madison Curry. She helped Princeton qualify for the NCAA tournament, where they lost in the second round to Texas Tech on penalties. [2] [6] She trained with NWSL team Orlando Pride the following summer. [3] In her junior season, she scored an Ivy League–high 10 goals in 10 games. She scored only goal in a 1–0 win against Brown that clinched the league regular-season title for Prince, and she scored twice in a 3–1 win against Harvard as Princeton won the Ivy League tournament. She scored in her final college game, opening in a 2–1 loss to Virginia in the first round of the NCAA tournament. She was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, first-team All-Ivy, and third-team All-American. [2]

Club career

Portland Thorns FC

Portland Thorns FC announced on January 8, 2025, that they had signed Tordin on a two-year contract with an option to extend an additional year. [7]

International career

Tordin has United States and Brazilian citizenship. She received her first international call-up with the Brazil under-20 team in October 2023. Two months later, she appeared for Brazil in a youth international friendly against France and scored to make it a 1–1 draw. [3]

Tordin was first called up to the United States under-20 team in January 2024, scoring in stoppage time of her debut the next month in a 1–0 friendly win over Colombia. [3] [8] She played for her birth country throughout the year and was selected to the roster for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. [3] [9] She emerged as the top scorer for the United States at the U-20 Women's World Cup with four goals, the most by an American at the tournament since Maya Hayes in 2012. [10] She scored a hat trick in a 7–0 win over Paraguay in the group stage, becoming the fifth American to score a hat trick at the U-20 World Cup and the first since Savannah DeMelo in 2018. [11] She started five of the last six games for the United States, which finished in third place. [10] She was called up by Emma Hayes into Futures Camp, practicing alongside the senior national team, in January 2025. [12]
