Pike County Schools is a public school district located in Pike County, Kentucky. The district has 10,457 students (as of 2008) attending 25 schools, making it the eighth largest school district in Kentucky. [1] It serves the entire county except for the city of Pikeville, which has a separate district of its own. Although some of the schools operated by the Pike County district have a Pikeville mailing address, none of them are within the Pikeville city limits.
The five members of the Pike County Board of Education are elected by general election to four-year terms. Each board member is responsible for an area of Pike County and the schools contained therein. The current board members are: Chairman Justin Maynard, Vice Chairman Kenneth "C.B." Biliter, Ireland "Heavy" Blankenship, and Nee Jackson. The District 3 board seat was vacated in October 2015 by Frank Ratliff. The seat has not yet been filled. Pike County is a county in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 58,669. Its county seat is Pikeville. The county was founded in 1821. With regard to the sale of alcohol, it is classified as a moist county–– a county in which alcohol sales are prohibited, but containing a "wet" city. There are three cities in the county, Pikeville, Elkhorn City, and Coal Run Village, where package alcohol sales are legal.
Letcher County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 21,548. Its county seat is Whitesburg. It was created in 1842 from Harlan and Perry counties, and named for Robert P. Letcher, Governor of Kentucky from 1840 to 1844.

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is a private university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and located in Pikeville, Kentucky. It was founded in 1889 by the Presbyterian Church and is located on a 25-acre (10 ha) campus on a hillside overlooking downtown Pikeville.

The Pikeville Cut-Through is a rock cut in Pikeville, Kentucky, United States, created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, through which passes a four-lane divided highway, a railroad line, and the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River. It is one of the largest civil engineering projects in the western hemisphere. Nearly 18,000,000 cubic yards (14,000,000 m3) of soil and rock were moved, making the Pikeville Cut-Through second only to the Panama Canal when ranking the hemisphere's largest earth-moving projects. Dr. William Hambley, who served as mayor of Pikeville for 29 years, Robert H. Holcomb, Chamber of Commerce president, and Henry Stratton, local attorney, spearheaded the project.
Pike County Airport, also known as Hatcher Field, is a public-use airport in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. It is owned by the Pike County Regional Airport Board and located six nautical miles (11 km) northwest of the central business district of Pikeville, Kentucky. This airport is included in the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2009–2013, which categorized it as a general aviation facility.
John McConnell Rice was a United States representative from Kentucky. He was born in Prestonsburg, Kentucky where he received a limited schooling. He graduated from a Louisville, Kentucky law school in 1852, was admitted to the bar in 1853, and commenced practice in Pikeville, Kentucky.
