Pippa Black (born 16 October 1982) [1] is an Australian actress. From 2005 to 2009, Black played Elle Robinson in the soap opera Neighbours . Black played Tonya in the NBC series Outsourced from 2010 to 2011.

Career

Black appeared in the television movie Evil Never Dies  [ it ] in 2003. She then went on to appear in episodes of The Secret Life of Us and Last Man Standing . [2] In September 2005, it was announced that Black had joined the cast of Neighbours as Elle Robinson. [3] Black told Clare Rigden of TV Week that she was going to London for a working holiday when she learnt that she had got the part. [3] Of joining the cast, she commented "I admit I was a little star struck turning up to Ramsay Street and meeting everybody, but they all bent over backwards to help out and settle my nerves." [3] Black earned a nomination for Most Popular New Female Talent at the Logie Awards for her portrayal of Elle. [4] She was also nominated for Best Actress at Cosmopolitan's Fun, Fearless Female Awards in 2009. [5] In June 2009, Black quit Neighbours to pursue other projects. [6] The actress later revealed she would be willing to return to the soap in the future. [7]

Black was cast in Gemma Lee's short film The Wake, which premiered at the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films in 2009. [8] [9] She then went on to appear in the independent film Emergence and was cast in an episode of City Homicide as Emily Rigby. [10] Black and her former Neighbours co-star Sweeney Young portrayed a young couple in the music video for Jacob Butler's single "Coma". [11] Of appearing in the video, Black stated "I really love the track, that's why I got on board. I've never appeared in a video clip before so it's nice to be involved in something with really relatable lyrics. I think the scenes that we shot are really dramatic and quite emotive with the music." [11]

On 6 July 2010, it was announced Black had been cast in US comedy Outsourced . She replaced Jessica Gower in the role of Tonya, "an athletic, statuesque woman who runs a customer service center in India." [12] NBC cancelled Outsourced after one season. [13] In 2012, Black appeared as Carissa Gibson in the season 13 finale of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit . [14] She also filmed her first leading role in the indie film My Funny Valentine, [15] and joined the cast of feature film Lemon Tree Passage as Amelia Stone. [16]

Black reprised her role of Elle Robinson in Neighbours for two guest appearances in September 2019 and July 2022. [17] [18]

Personal life

Black attended St Patrick's Primary School in Pakenham Victoria and she later became a Vice Captain at Beaconhills College. [19] She deferred her Animal Technology studies to pursue an acting career. [19] Black moved to Los Angeles in 2011 and shared an apartment with fellow Australian actor Tim Campbell. [14]

Black is a vegetarian and she starred in an ad campaign for PETA Asia Pacific in 2007. Black donned a gown made entirely of lettuce leaves. She said that "going vegetarian is a positive step to help stop animal suffering; it's also great for your health and the environment." [20] Black has supported various charities including the Narre Warren Lighthouse Foundation and the Australian Childhood Foundation. [19] [21]

Ramsay Street is the fictional cul-de-sac in which the characters of the Australian soap opera Neighbours live. The street is set in the equally fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough. Neighbours storylines primarily centre on the residents of the street, which was named after Jack Ramsay, the grandfather of original character Max Ramsay. A blackjack game between Jack and Sam Robinson determined whose name the street would be named after. Only six houses on the street are featured on a regular basis; numbers 22 to 32. Number 34 was featured for the only time in 2018. The cul-de-sac is at the end of a long street and the rest of the houses are on the other side of the main road which bisects it. A storyline within the show saw the name of the street nearly changed to Ramsbottom Street. Harold Bishop led a protest against it and won.

Erinsborough is the fictional suburb where the Australian soap opera Neighbours is set. The show focuses on the domestic and professional lives of the people who live and work in the suburb. Neighbours storylines primarily centre on the residents of Ramsay Street within other Erinsborough locations, namely The Waterhole, Harold's Café, Lassiters Hotel, Erinsborough High School and Erinsborough Hospital. Erinsborough was originally going to be named Erinsfield, which is a loose anagram of Neighbours. Throughout much of the show's run it was not stated in which city of Australia Erinsborough was located. The rivalry between Sydney and Melbourne meant that scripts did not mention that Erinsborough was a suburb of the latter city until 1994. Since the 2000s it has been explicitly stated that Erinsborough is a suburb of Melbourne.

<i>Neighbours</i> Australian soap opera (1985–)

Neighbours is an Australian television soap opera, which has aired since 18 March 1985. It was created by television executive Reg Watson. The Seven Network commissioned the show following the success of Watson's earlier soap Sons and Daughters. Although successful in Melbourne, Neighbours underperformed in the Sydney market and was cancelled by Seven four months after it began airing. It was immediately commissioned by rival Network Ten for a second production season, which began screening on 20 January 1986. Neighbours became the longest-running drama series in Australian television history. In 2005, it was inducted into the Logie Hall of Fame.

Lucas Fitzgerald is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Scott Major. The actor had previously appeared in Neighbours in 1993 as Darren Stark. He received a call to play Lucas shortly after he was getting the feel for acting again. Major accepted the role as the character seemed like fun and he wanted to work with his friend Brett Tucker. He made his first screen appearance as Lucas during the episode broadcast on 22 July 2008. The following year, Major signed a new contract and was promoted to the regular cast. On 1 July 2013, it was confirmed that Major had left Neighbours and his character departed on 24 September 2013. He made a brief return on 4 March 2015 for the show's 30th anniversary celebrations. Major made numerous guest appearances from 2015 until the show's final episode broadcast on 28 July 2022.

She was initially contracted for six weeks, but this was extended after she impressed the producers with her performance. Goldsmith filmed her final scenes in January 2009 and Cassandra's departure was aired on 29 April 2009.

Morgana O'Reilly is a New Zealand film, television and theatre actress. She has appeared in several theatre productions and created the one-woman play The Height of the Eiffel Tower, which she performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2014. O'Reilly played Lynn Matthews in the biographical television film Billy and starred as Kylie Bucknell in the horror-comedy Housebound. She has made appearances in Nothing Trivial, Sunny Skies, This is Littleton. O'Reilly played Naomi Canning in Neighbours from 2013 until 2015. She made a guest appearance in 2020. She stars in sitcom Mean Mums and joined the cast of Wentworth as Narelle Stang in 2019.

"The plane crash" is a storyline from the Australian television soap opera Neighbours that began on 24 October 2005 when an aeroplane, carrying several characters, crashed in Bass Strait after a bomb was detonated during the journey. The storyline aired as part of the show's 20th anniversary and would be the catalyst for several major storylines that aired the following year. "The plane crash" also saw the departures of three established characters: David, Liljana and Serena Bishop. The actors' departures had been announced in May 2005, but it was not confirmed they would depart during "The plane crash" until their last scenes aired.
