Pissed Jeans is an American hardcore punk band from Allentown, Pennsylvania. [2] The band claims to play "loud, heavy, noisy, punk rock" [3] and is influenced by 1980s hardcore punk and post-hardcore bands. [4] The band has released six albums and seven singles, and are currently signed to record label Sub Pop in Seattle.
The members of Pissed Jeans all attended Nazareth Area High School in Nazareth, Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley region of eastern Pennsylvania. The band initially planned to use the name Unrequited Hard-On before ultimately settling on Pissed Jeans. [4] As Matt Korvette explains,
The idea was to start a different kinda punk band focused on dead ended carnal cravings, sexual depression...that sort of thing. Mainly we just wanted to bludgeon the listener with dull, monotonous droning rock music that just sucks the energy out of you, the musical equivalent to watching a toilet flush. [4]
Pissed Jeans released its debut, Shallow , in 2005 on Parts Unknown Records. This was followed by Hope for Men (2007), King of Jeans (2009) and Honeys (2013), all released on Sub Pop Records. [5]
The New York Times wrote that the band was "bring(ing) back '80s memories of hard, slovenly noise, when punk bands realized they could slow down and let their music fall apart a bit"; however, the article also observed the "aggressive, nasty" reaction of attendees at a 2008 show, who evidently were unprepared for Pissed Jeans sonics. The concert goers "started to huddle defensively on the sides," with "the columns of speakers on either side of the band...being used as something to hold on to. Average hipsters started to look like sailors clinging to a mast in a storm," The New York Times reported. [6]
Their album Honeys was released in February 2013. AllMusic noted that "Fortunately, when the world has you feeling trapped, Pissed Jeans are there to help you rage out for a bit while you find some perspective." [1]
In March 2013, Pissed Jeans was named one of Fuse TV's 30 must-see artists at SXSW. [7]
Pissed Jeans' fifth album Why Love Now was released in February 2017.
On January 8, 2024, the band announced their sixth album, Half Divorced . The album was released on March 1 by Sub Pop. [8]
Hardcore punk is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Its roots can be traced to earlier punk scenes in San Francisco and Southern California which arose as a reaction against the still predominant hippie cultural climate of the time. It was also inspired by Washington, D.C., and New York punk rock and early proto-punk. Hardcore punk generally disavows commercialism, the established music industry and "anything similar to the characteristics of mainstream rock" and often addresses social and political topics with "confrontational, politically charged lyrics".
Emo is a music genre characterized by emotional, often confessional lyrics. It emerged as a style of hardcore punk and post-hardcore from the mid-1980s Washington, D.C. hardcore scene, where it was known as emotional hardcore or emocore. The bands Rites of Spring and Embrace, among others, pioneered the genre. In the early-to-mid 1990s, emo was adopted and reinvented by alternative rock, indie rock, punk rock, and pop-punk bands, including Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbreaker, Cap'n Jazz, and Jimmy Eat World. By the mid-1990s, Braid, the Promise Ring, and the Get Up Kids emerged from Midwest emo, and several independent record labels began to specialize in the genre. Meanwhile, screamo, a more aggressive style of emo using screamed vocals, also emerged, pioneered by the San Diego bands Heroin and Antioch Arrow. Screamo achieved mainstream success in the 2000s with bands like Hawthorne Heights, Silverstein, Story of the Year, Thursday, the Used, and Underoath.

Originally being a solo project by Steinhauser, the band's style has been sometimes called Nintendocore. The band has performed over 1000 shows throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, and the United Kingdom, touring with bands, artists and rappers such as Andrew W.K., Japanther, Wheatus, MC Frontalot, Horse the Band MC Chris, Peelander-Z, Anamanaguchi and MC Lars. Math the Band has been featured in several magazines such as Venus Zine and Keyboard Magazine, and were also featured on NPR Music. Still, with band members spread across the United States, Math the Band is based in Providence, Rhode Island and are a part of Providence's AS220 and have performed there multiple times.
King of Jeans is a 2009 album by noise rock/hardcore punk band Pissed Jeans. It is their second album for Sub Pop Records, and their first album working with English producer Alex Newport. Like most of the band's releases, the album features banal lyrics and atonal and abrasive guitar rock. It has been well received by critics.

Why Love Now is the fifth studio album by American hardcore punk band Pissed Jeans, debuting via streaming on February 16, 2017 through Noisey and released to other formats by Sub Pop on February 24. The album covers issues related to gender relations, misogyny, and white male privilege, one critic labeling it as "preëmptive self-critique, an attempt to defang male aggression by letting it feed on itself." The band produced Why Love Now with no wave artist Lydia Lunch, who strictly controlled how the group worked on the record, and metal musician Arthur Rizk, who handled the technical aspects. Why Love Now was positively received by critics, who praised its use of uncomfortable lyrical themes, and landed at number 24 on the American Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart.

Destroy Boys are an American punk rock band formed in Sacramento, California, in 2015. In 2017, they were nominated for awards in the 25th Sacramento Area Music Awards in the categories "New Artist", "Punk/post-punk" and "Teen" and in 2018 was the highest-voted contestant in Do The Bay's contest to play Noise Pop Festival. Their second album Make Room was included in Maximumrocknroll's top 10 albums of 2018.
