Pixley Falls is a waterfall located on Lansing Kill south of Boonville, New York by Hurlbutville, New York. Pixley Falls is located within Pixley Falls State Park.

Hooterville is a fictional agricultural community that is the setting for the American situation comedies Petticoat Junction (1963–70) and Green Acres (1965–1971), two rural-oriented television series created or produced by Paul Henning for Filmways and CBS. Prior to the airing of Petticoat Junction, Hooterville is mentioned in an early episode in the first season of The Beverly Hillbillies, another Paul Henning sitcom. In this episode, Jethrine Bodine, Jethro Bodine's sister has a budding romance with a slick traveling salesman, Jasper, who invites her to a dance in Hooterville. Hooterville is a town, a valley, and a county, and has been described as "a place simultaneously Southern and Midwestern, but in a vague sort of way." Little concrete or reliable information can be gleaned from the two shows about the place, as references in individual episodes are rife with inconsistencies, contradictions, geographic impossibilities and continuity errors. The writers of the two shows often changed the details about the Hooterville community at will for the purpose of cracking a joke, and they left certain details intentionally vague and unexplained.

Gus Pixley was an American actor-singer and comic on the theatre stage, and an actor of the silent era. He appeared in burlesque, vaudeville, and minstrelsy with "America's greatest female impersonator," Burton Stanley. They toured widely with Emerson's Minstrels in the United States and Australia in the 1880s and 1890s. Pixley was on Broadway and toured America in Victor Herbert's musical Babes In Toyland as the character "Inspector Marmaduke." Pixley appeared in 132 films between 1910 and 1921. He died in Saranac Lake, New York on June 2, 1923 at age 49.
Ogdensburg, Clayton and Rome Railroad was founded to compete with the Black River and Utica on April 7, 1853. Both railroads were to head from their respective cities north to Boonville. From there, the BR&U took the low route and the OC&R took the high route. Everyone was agreed that the region could support only one railroad, and before either railroad could be completed, the Civil War intervened. No portion of the OC&R was completed, but grading was commenced at various points. By 1856, work was suspended, and the company lost its charter in 1859.
Pixley National Wildlife Refuge is located 35 miles (56 km) south of Tulare, California and 45 miles (72 km) north of Bakersfield in the San Joaquin Valley. The 6,939-acre (2,808 ha) nature refuge represents one of the few remaining examples of the grasslands, vernal pools, and playas that once bordered historic Tulare Lake, the largest lake west of the Great Lakes until the late 19th century.

Pixley Falls is a waterfall located on Lansing Kill by Hurlbutville. Lansing Kill flows through Pixley Falls State Park and it flows parallel to the old Black River Canal for much of its course.
