Ponhofi Senior Secondary School is a government school in Helao Nafidi Town Council, in the Ohangwena region, Namibia. [1] It is one of the schools that between 1987 and 1988 students were killed or severely wounded after soldiers opened fire at their rooms/hostels in retaliation for attacks by the People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) combatants. [2] Ponhofi is one of the top academic schools in the Ohangwena region, with a strong focus on academics, leadership, sports, and culture.
The Ponhofi School in the north became the key rallying point as students demanded the demilitarisation of education and the removal of military bases from schools and the implementation of the UN Resolution 435. [2]
Ponhofi lost its students when PLAN fighters attacked the South West Africa Territorial Force (SWATF) military base between 1987 and 1988, two students were murdered and seven others were injured by the military. [2] ponhofi hosted the 19th edition of the Kapuka Annual tournament in the year 2015. [2]
National student boycotts that happened during the colonial era 1988 in Ponhofi Secondary School in today's Ohangwena region halted the school operations and many learners were affected. [3] In the same vein, in 2020 Ponhofi Secondary School temporarily suspended classes for its grade 11 and 12 learners after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. [4]
Ponhofi Secondary School has been serving quality education to Namibian students from grade Grade 8 to grade Grade 12 for years. Almost 900-1500 students are getting an education from Ponhofi Secondary School right now. [1] The school is also a registered NAMCOL center for those that are improving their grades. [5]
Homeschooling or home schooling, also known as home education or elective home education (EHE), is the education of school-aged children at home or a variety of places other than a school. Usually conducted by a parent, tutor, or online teacher, many homeschool families use less formal, more personalized and individualized methods of learning that are not always found in schools. The actual practice of homeschooling varies considerably. Some families who initially attended a school go through a deschool phase to break away from school habits and prepare for homeschooling. While "homeschooling" is the term commonly used in North America, "home education" is primarily used in Europe and many Commonwealth countries. Homeschooling should not be confused with distance education, which generally refers to the arrangement where the student is educated by and conforms to the requirements of an online school, rather than being educated independently and unrestrictedly by their parents or by themselves.

Educational assessment or educational evaluation is the systematic process of documenting and using empirical data on the knowledge, skill, attitudes, aptitude and beliefs to refine programs and improve student learning. Assessment data can be obtained by examining student work directly to assess the achievement of learning outcomes or it is based on data from which one can make inferences about learning. Assessment is often used interchangeably with test but is not limited to tests. Assessment can focus on the individual learner, the learning community, a course, an academic program, the institution, or the educational system as a whole. The word "assessment" came into use in an educational context after the Second World War.
French immersion is a form of bilingual education in which students who do not speak French as a first language will receive instruction in French. Mastery learning is an instructional strategy and educational philosophy, first formally proposed by Benjamin Bloom in 1968. Mastery learning maintains that students must achieve a level of mastery in prerequisite knowledge before moving forward to learn subsequent information. If a student does not achieve mastery on the test, they are given additional support in learning and reviewing the information and then tested again. This cycle continues until the learner accomplishes mastery, and they may then move on to the next stage. In a self-paced online learning environment, students study the material and take assessments. If they make mistakes, the system provides insightful explanations and directs them to revisit the relevant sections. They then answer different questions on the same material, and this cycle repeats until they reach the established mastery threshold. Only then can they move on to subsequent learning modules, assessments, or certifications.
Education in Mauritius is managed by the Ministry of Education & Human Resources, which controls the development and administration of state schools funded by government, but also has an advisory and supervisory role in respect of private schools. The Tertiary education is maintained by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology. English-language learner is a term used in some English-speaking countries such as the United States and Canada to describe a person who is learning the English language and has a native language that is not English. Some educational advocates, especially in the United States, classify these students as non-native English speakers or emergent bilinguals. Various other terms are also used to refer to students who are not proficient in English, such as English as a second language (ESL), English as an additional language (EAL), limited English proficient (LEP), culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD), non-native English speaker, bilingual students, heritage language, emergent bilingual, and language-minority students. The legal term that is used in federal legislation is 'limited English proficient'.

Education in Namibia is compulsory until the year a learner turns 18. There are approximately 1900 schools in Namibia of which 100 are privately owned. Namibian subjects' syllabi are based on the International General Certificate of Secondary Education and Advanced Subsidiary Level which is part of Cambridge International. The Constitution directs the government to provide free primary education; however, families must pay fees for uniforms, stationery, books, hostels, and school improvements. Haimbili Haufiku Senior Secondary School is a school at east of Eenhana town in the Ohangwena Region of Namibia. It was established in 1988. R.M.O Shaninga is the current principal of the school. bHaimbili Haufiku was named after the eighth Oukwanyama, King Haimbili yaHaufiku, who ruled from 1811 until 1858.
Helao Nafidi is a town in Ohangwena Region in northern Namibia at the border to Angola. It has been established in 2004 as an amalgamation of several villages and settlements along the main road between Oshikango and Ohangwena which are both also part of the town. Helao Nafidi has 19,375 inhabitants. The town is separated into three urban areas, Oshikango in the north, bisected by the Namibian–Angolan border, and Omafo and Ohangwena south of it, with settlements and villages in the agricultural area between them.
Positive education is an approach to education that draws on positive psychology's emphasis of individual strengths and personal motivation to promote learning. Unlike traditional school approaches, positive schooling teachers use techniques that focus on the well-being of individual students. Teachers use methods such as developing tailored goals for each student to engender learning and working with them to develop the plans and motivation to reach their goals. Rather than pushing students to achieve at a set grade level, seen through the emphasis of standardized testing, this approach attempts to customize learning goals to individual students' levels. Instead of setting students to compete against one another, learning is viewed as a cooperative process where teachers learn to respect their students and each student's input is valued.

Dr Abraham Iyambo Senior Secondary School is a school in the Ohangwena Region of northern Namibia, situated c. 35 kilometres (22 mi) east of Eenhana. The school's original name was Oshikunde Senior Secondary School after the Oshikunde Constituency in which it is situated. After a major renovation in September 2014, it was renamed after the former Minister of Higher Education Abraham Iyambo. Dr Abraham Iyambo SSS is a government boarding school catering for grades 11 and 12. In 2014 it had 404 learners.
On 12 March 2020, all schools, colleges, and childcare facilities in the Republic of Ireland were shut down in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The shutdown resulted in the cancellation of the 2020 Leaving Certificate and 2020–2021 Junior Certificate examinations, as well as all 2020–2021 Irish language summer courses in the Gaeltacht.
