The Poulenc Trio [1] is an American chamber music ensemble and oboe-bassoon-piano trio, formed in 2003. The current[ when? ] members are pianist Irina Kaplan Lande, bassoonist Bryan Young and oboist Aleh Remezau. Former members have included New York Philharmonic principal oboist Liang Wang, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra oboist James Austin Smith and Vladimir Lande. Wang joined the group in 2015 [2] after the departure of the founding oboist Vladimir Lande. [3]
The Poulenc Trio has performed with notable collaborators including Grammy-winners Hilary Hahn [4] and David Shifrin, [5] Avery Fisher Grant-recipients Anthony McGill [6] and Alexander Fiterstein, [7] and has recorded with the poet and Guggenheim Fellow, Lia Purpura. [8]
The Trio's performances have been broadcast on American public radio programs including NPR's Performance Today [9] and PRX's Wolf Trap Live from Center Stage . [10] The Trio has released recordings on the Marquis Classics [11] and Delos/Naxos labels. [12]
The group is named after the composer Francis Poulenc, [13] whose 1926 Trio for oboe, bassoon, and piano is among the most popular works [14] for the combination of instruments. Other notable examples of works written for the combo include trios by André Previn and Jean Françaix. The Poulenc Trio has also commissioned and performed arrangements of works by Beethoven, Stravinsky, Mikhail Glinka, Rossini, Duke Ellington, Astor Piazzolla, Paquito D'Rivera, Charlie Chaplin and others. The oboe is a type of double-reed woodwind instrument. Oboes are usually made of wood, but may also be made of synthetic materials, such as plastic, resin, or hybrid composites.
Ellen Taaffe Zwilich is an American composer, the first female composer to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Her early works are marked by atonal exploration, but by the late 1980s, she had shifted to a postmodernist, neoromantic style. She has been called "one of America's most frequently played and genuinely popular living composers." She was a 1994 inductee into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame. Zwilich has served as the Francis Eppes Distinguished Professor at Florida State University.
Joan Tower is a Grammy-winning contemporary American composer, concert pianist and conductor. Lauded by The New Yorker as "one of the most successful woman composers of all time", her bold and energetic compositions have been performed in concert halls around the world. After gaining recognition for her first orchestral composition, Sequoia (1981), a tone poem which structurally depicts a giant tree from trunk to needles, she has gone on to compose a variety of instrumental works including Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman, which is something of a response to Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, the Island Prelude, five string quartets, and an assortment of other tone poems. Tower was pianist and founding member of the Naumburg Award-winning Da Capo Chamber Players, which commissioned and premiered many of her early works, including her widely performed Petroushskates.
Pamela Frank is an American violinist, with an active international career across a varied range of performing activity. Her musicianship was recognized in 1999 with the Avery Fisher Prize, one of the highest honors given to American instrumentalists. In addition to her career as a performer, Frank holds the Herbert R. and Evelyn Axelrod Chair in Violin Studies at the Curtis Institute of Music, where she has taught since 1996, and is also an Adjunct Professor of Violin at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music since 2018.
David Shifrin is an American classical clarinetist and artistic director.
Lia Purpura is an American poet, writer and educator. She is the author of four collections of poems, four collections of essays and one collection of translations. Albrecht Mayer is a German classical oboist and conductor. The principal oboist of the Berlin Philharmonic, he is internationally known as a soloist and chamber musician and has made many recordings.

Graeme Peter Crump, known professionally as Peter Graeme and as 'Timmy' Crump to friends and family, was an English oboist and academic teacher. He was best known as the principal oboist of the Melos Ensemble.
The Oboe Concerto is a concerto for oboe and orchestra by the American composer Christopher Rouse. The work was commissioned by the Minnesota Orchestra and completed in 2004. The piece premiered in 2009 with oboist Basil Reeve and the Minnesota Orchestra performing under conductor Osmo Vanska.
Francis Poulenc's Sextuor (Sextet), FP 100, is a chamber music piece written for a standard wind quintet and piano. Estimates about the time of its composition range from between 1931 and 1932 and 1932 alone. It received its debut in 1933 but was later revised in 1939. Performed in its entirety, the three-movement piece lasts approximately 18 minutes.

Maurice Bourgue was a French oboist, composer, conductor, and academic teacher who made an international career. He was principal oboist with the Orchestre de Paris from its foundation in 1967 until 1979. He founded a wind octet of members of the orchestra in 1972, for performing and recordings. He taught chamber music at the Conservatoire de Paris and the Geneva Conservatoire. Bourgue played in world premieres, such as Les Citations by Henri Dutilleux in 1991.
