Powder River County is a county in the U.S. state of Montana. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,694. Its county seat is Broadus.

Enrollment is also possible for residents of Cowling, although their students are usually sent to the nearby school in Grayville.

Laurel High School in Laurel, Montana opened in 1908, with W.A. Longley serving as the first principal. The original high school was located on First Avenue between Ninth Street and Seventh Street. It was known as "The Old North School". The school, in its present location on Eighth Street, was constructed in 1962 and the Old North School was demolished in 1969. The demolition inspired Laurel's graduating class to lead one of the largest public rallies in the history of Montana and the Northwest region of the United States.

Steilacoom High School (or SHS) is a public high school in Steilacoom, Washington, United States and is part of the Steilacoom Historical School District. It is the oldest, and to date the only, high school in the school district. Prior to its establishment, students attended grades 9–12 in the neighboring Tacoma School District and Clover Park School District. SHS was established in 1981 for grades 9 and 10, with grades 11 and 12 starting in the following two years. The facility underwent a $23 million modernization and expansion in 2007–09.
Big Sky High School is an American public high school in Missoula, Montana, United States, opened in 1980. The school made Missoula the first city in Montana to have four secondary schools. It is a part of the Missoula County Public Schools.
Seeley-Swan High School is an American public high school located in Seeley Lake, Montana, United States. It is a part of the Missoula County Public Schools, and the only school in the district that does not lie within the city boundaries of Missoula. The school fluctuates in size from about 90 students to 110 students depending on the year. As of 2014 there were 111 students. This rise and fall of students gives the school the chance to jump back and forth from a class C to a class B school. Seeley-Swan High School gets its name because the Swan Valley residents commute to Seeley for high school. The school has been recognized state and nationwide for academic excellence. It is only 52 miles from Missoula and 63 from Bigfork. It is located between the Swan Range and Mission Mountains.
The Powder River Examiner, originally established in October 1918 as the Broadus Independent, is the only newspaper printed in Powder River County, Montana, and is located in the county seat of Broadus.
