Qualification for powerlifting at the 2020 Summer Paralympics began on 25 May 2018 and finished on 27 June 2021. There were 180 powerlifters (80 male, 80 female and 20 gender free) competing in 20 events (10 male, 10 female). [1]

Paracanoeing at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, also simply referred to as canoeing, was held in Rio de Janeiro in September 2016, with a maximum of 60 athletes competing in six sprint style events. This was the first appearance for Para-canoe in the Paralympic Games.
Powerlifting at the 2016 Summer Paralympics was held at Riocentro from September, with a maximum of 180 athletes, competing in 20 events. According to the classification rules of the International Federation for Powerlifting athletes which cannot participate in weightlifting events because of a physical impairment affecting their legs or hips are deemed eligible to compete in powerlifting events at the Paralympics.

Indian athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Paralympics since 1984, though they made their official debut at the 1968 Summer Paralympics. This is India's most successful Paralympic season with 5 golds 8 silvers and 6 bronzes. Before this edition, India had won 12 medals of all previous Paralympics appearances combined.

Qualification for boccia at the 2020 Summer Paralympics begin from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2019. There are seven mixed events where 82 quotas are gender free and 34 are for females to make a total of 116 athletes.
Thailand competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics from 24 August to 5 September 2021. This was the country's tenth appearance at the Paralympic Games.

The delegation did not win any medal for the first time since the 2012 edition.
