Olivia Broome (born 13 June 2001) [1] is a para powerlifter who won a bronze medal in the under-50 kg event at the delayed 2020 Summer Paralympics. She is the British and world junior record holder in the under-50 kg event, and has won multiple Para Powerlifting World Cup medals. She also won the junior under-50 kg event at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships, silver medal in the women's 50 kg event, and a silver medal in the lightweight event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Broome is from Chorley, Lancashire. [2] She has been a student at Loughborough University. [3]
Broome started para powerlifting at the age of 15, [4] and trains at the British Weightlifting Centre at Loughborough University. [5]
She came 10th in the under-50 kg event at the 2017 World Para Powerlifting Championships in Mexico City, [5] and second in the junior under-50 kg event. [6] She won a medal at that year's British Championships. She received the 2017 British Weight Lifting Young Lifter of the Year award. [2] At the 2018 European Para Powerlifting Championships, she came third in the senior event, and first in the junior event. [2] In 2019, she received some money from a Westminster charity, in order to help fund her attempts to qualify for the 2020 Summer Paralympics. [7] Broome came third in the 2020 Para Powerlifting World Cup event in Manchester. [8] At the March 2021 Para Powerlifting World Cup event in Manchester, Broome lifted 100 kilograms (220 lb), a new British record. She came second in the event. [4] At the World Cup event in Tbilisi, Broome set a junior world record by lifting 106.5 kilograms (235 lb). [9] [10] She won the junior event, and finished second in the senior event. [10]
In July 2021, Broome was selected for the under-50 kg event at the delayed 2020 Summer Paralympics. She was one of five Britons selected for para powerlifting events at the Games. [11] At the Games, she finished third in the under-50 kg event, after lifting 107 kilograms (236 lb) on her second attempt. [12]
A few months after the Paralympics, she won the gold medal in the junior women's 50 kg event at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships held in Tbilisi, Georgia. [13] She also won the silver medal in the senior women's 50 kg event. [14] [15] In May 2022, Broome was selected for the para powerlifting event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. [16] She finished second in the event, behind fellow English competitor Zoe Newson. [17]
Paralympic powerlifting, also known as para powerlifting and para-lifting, is an adaptation of the sport of powerlifting for athletes with disabilities. The only discipline in Paralympic powerlifting is the bench press. The sport is governed by the International Paralympic Committee and is open to anyone with a minimum level of disability who can extend their arms within 20° of full extension during a lift. Powerlifting has been competed at the Summer Paralympics since 1984.
Lucy Ogechukwu Ejike is a Nigerian Paralympic powerlifter. She has represented her country at six consecutive Paralympic Games from 2000 in Sydney through to 2021 in Tokyo. She has won medals at each, three gold, two silver and one bronze. She won a further silver medal at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth games women's lightweight category of the Para Powerlifting event behind compatriot Esther Oyema.
Zoe Newson is a British powerlifter. She is a two-time bronze medalist at the Summer Paralympics and she won the silver medal in her event at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships.
Cui Zhe is a powerlifter from China. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics she won a silver medal in the women's 40 kg powerlifting event, lifting 97 kg (214 lb).
Bose Omolayo is a Nigerian powerlifter. She won the gold medal in the women's 79 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan. A few months later, she won the gold medal in her event at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships held in Tbilisi, Georgia. At this event, she also set a new world record of 144 kg.
Fatma Omar is an Egyptian powerlifter competing in the -56 kg category. She is a dominant power in her sport, winning gold in her event in four Summer Paralympics, and another four gold medals at the IPC Powerlifting World Championships.
Xu Lili is a Chinese power lifter. She is a two-time silver medalist at the Summer Paralympics and has been world champion in the women's up-to-73kg competition.
Lidiia Soloviova is a Ukrainian disability powerlifter, who has represented Ukraine at the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Paralympics.
Amalia Pérez Vázquez is a Mexican powerlifter in the 44 kilograms (97 lb) - 60 kilograms (130 lb) bracket. She has four times been a Paralympic champion and is the only powerlifter in the world to have Paralympic champion in three divisions.
Omar Sami Hamadeh Qarada is a Jordanian Paralympic powerlifter. He is a three-time medalist at the Summer Paralympics, including gold in 2021, and a four-time medalist, including two gold medals, at the World Para Powerlifting Championships. He is the first powerlifter representing Jordan to win a gold medal at the Paralympics.
Rehab Ahmed is an Egyptian Paralympic powerlifter. She is a two-time silver medalist at the Summer Paralympics and a three-time gold medalist at the World Para Powerlifting Championships.

Guo Lingling is a Chinese Paralympic powerlifter. She won the gold medal in the women's 41 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan. She is also a three-time gold medalist at the World Para Powerlifting Championships.
David Mamievich Degtyarev is a Kazakh Paralympic powerlifter. He won the gold medal in the men's 54 kg event at both the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan and the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships held in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Herbert Aceituno is a Salvadoran Paralympic powerlifter of short stature. He is a bronze medalist at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan, a silver medalist at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships held in Tbilisi, Georgia and a gold medalist at the 2019 Parapan American Games held in Lima, Peru.
Bonnie Bunyau anak Gustin is a Malaysian powerlifter. He won Malaysia's first ever gold medal in the sport in the men's 72 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, breaking the Paralympic record in the process.
Nataliia Oliinyk is a Ukrainian Paralympic powerlifter. She won the silver medal in the women's 79 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan.
