1993 Kolkata Firing was an incident of firing by Calcutta Police in 1993 on Indian National Congress workers. The State Youth Congress led by Mamata Banerjee had organised a protest march to Writers Building on 21 July 1993 against the then Communist government of the state,demanding photo voter identity cards be made mandatory to ensure fair elections. The Police fired on the protesters killing 13 people and injuring many others.

Nabab is a 2017 Indo-Bangladeshi action thriller film directed by Joydip Mukherjee and produced by Abdul Aziz and Himanshu Dhanuka under the banner of Jaaz Multimedia and Eskay Movies. The film features Bangladeshi superstar Shakib Khan as Nabab,an intelligence agent tasked with a secret operation in West Bengal,India and Subhashree Ganguly as a crime news reporter and Nabab's love interest. It also features Sabyasachi Chakrabarty,Amit Hasan,Aparajita Adhya,Kharaj Mukherjee and Arindam Saha in supporting roles. The soundtrack album and background score of the film was composed by Savvy Gupta and Akassh. The film was released on 26 June 2017 on the occasion of Eid in Bangladesh and released in India on 28 July 2017.

Anuj Sharma is an officer of the Indian Police Service. He was the 40th and 42nd Commissioner of Police,Kolkata,having served from 19 February to 5 April 2019 and from 26 May 2019 to 7 February 2021. On 26 May 2019,Anuj Sharma was reinstated as the 42nd Commissioner of Police,Kolkata,replacing Dr. Rajesh Kumar.
Surajit Kar Purkayastha is a retired senior Indian Police Service officer of 1985 West Bengal cadre who served as the State Security Advisor of West Bengal from 1 June 2018 to 31 May 2021. Prior to that,he served as Director General of Police of West Bengal and was the 36th Police Commissioner of Kolkata.
Manoj Malaviya is a 1986 batch Indian Police Service officer who is currently the State Police Advisor (SPA),West Bengal,an ex-cadre post equivalent to DGP rank. Before this he served as the Director General of West Bengal Police from August 2021 to December 2023. He has held several important positions in his career,including Additional Commissioner of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security in Delhi,and Deputy Commissioner of Police in Kolkata Police. He was promoted to the rank of Director General in 2017 and held the post till 2023.
Rajeev Kumar PPM IPS is an Indian police officer and bureaucrat,who is serving as the Director General of West Bengal Police,since July 2024. Previously he served in the same post from December 2023 until was removed by Election Commission of India on March 2024. Prior to his office,he is also additional chief secretary of Information Technology of West Bengal Government since 2023.
Damayanti Sen is an Indian Police Service officer of the 1996 intake from the West Bengal cadre. She holds the rank of Additional Director General of Police in West Bengal Police.
