Pratik Gandhi (born 28 April 1980) is an Indian actor, who mainly works in Gujarati and Hindi cinema. He is best known for portraying Harshad Mehta in Sony LIV series Scam 1992 (2020).

Contents

Early life

Gandhi was born in Surat to parents who were teachers. He completed his schooling at Smt. V. D. Desai (Wadiwala) High School (Bhulka Bhavan) in Surat. He studied at Surat where he was involved in theatre arts. [1] He graduated in Industrial Engineering from the North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon in 2004. From 2004 to 2007, he worked with National Productivity Council in Satara and Pune.[ citation needed ] He later worked at Reliance Infrastructure (cement division) in Mumbai from January 2008 to 2016. Career

Gandhi participated in the Gujarati play Aa Paar Ke Pele Paar. He played a role in the Gujarati film Bey Yaar (2014) [2] and in plays Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon, Hu Chandrakant Bakshi and Ame Badha Sathe To Duniya Laiye Mathe. In Mohan's Masala , he performed a monologue in three languages, English, Hindi and Gujarati on the same day. He played a lead role in his next film, Wrong Side Raju (2016) which won the National Award for Best Gujarati Film. [5] His next Gujarati films Love Ni Bhavai (2017) and Ventilator (2018) were commercially successful.

He played stockbroker Harshad Mehta in the 2020 Sony LIV biographical drama web series Scam 1992 directed by Hansal Mehta. He received wide acclaim for portraying Harshad Mehta. [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11]

Gandhi appeared in the 2021 Hindi film Bhavai where he played a lead. The film received mixed reviews. [12] [13] [14] His next Hindi film was Atithi Bhooto Bhava was released in 2022. [15] Gujarati film Vaahlam Jaao Ne (2022) was his next release. [16]

He appears in Hindi film Dedh Bigha Zameen, written and directed by Pulkit. [17] In July 2022, director Hansal Mehta announced a multi-season biographical web series on Mahatma Gandhi starring Pratik Gandhi in lead role. [18]

Personal life

He married actress Bhamini Oza in 2009[ citation needed ] [19] and their daughter Miraya was born in 2014.

The Big Bull is a 2021 Indian Hindi-language crime drama film directed and written by Kookie Gulati, based on stockbroker Harshad Mehta who was involved in financial crimes over a period of 10 years during 1980–1990. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan, Ileana D'Cruz and Nikita Dutta. It entered production in September 2019, and was digitally released on 8 April 2021 on Disney+ Hotstar. The film received mixed reviews, praising Bachchan's performance, but criticized in comparison to the much acclaimed Scam 1992, which was also based on Mehta's life.

The 1992 Indian stock market scam was a market manipulation carried out by Harshad Mehta with other bankers and politicians on the Bombay Stock Exchange. The scam caused significant disruption to the stock market of India, defrauding investors of over ten million USD.

Deeksha Joshi is an Indian actress from Gujarat who primarily works in the Gujarati film industry. She made her acting debut in 2017 with the film Shubh Aarambh, followed by Karsandas Pay & Use (2017), Sharato Lagu (2018), Dhunki (2019).

Based on the 1992 Indian stock market scam committed by many stockbrokers including Harshad Mehta, the series is adapted from journalist Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu's 1992 book The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away. <i>Scam 2003</i> 2023 Indian financial crime television series

Scam 2003: The Telgi Story is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language biographical financial thriller streaming television series on SonyLIV directed by Tushar Hiranandani, with Hansal Mehta serving as the co-director. Based on a true story of stamped paper counterfeitings committed by Abdul Karim Telgi in early 2000s, the series is inspired from Sanjay Singh's book Telgi Scam: Reporter's ki Diary. It is the second installment in Scam franchise followed by Scam 1992.

Gandhi is an upcoming Indian biographical historical drama television series created and directed by Hansal Mehta. Produced by Applause Entertainment, the series depicts the life of Mahatma Gandhi, based on the books Gandhi Before India and Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World by Ramachandra Guha. The series is planned to span three seasons. Production for the first season began in January 2024, with its release expected in early 2025.
