The Prefect of Ain is the highest state representative in the department of Ain on the East border of France. Its seat is in Bourg-en-Bresse.

Contents

The office was created in 1800 under Napoléon Bonaparte, then First Consul of the French First Republic, to ensure the representation of the state in the departements and the full application of the national law. Under the Fifth Republic, the powers of a Prefect are governed by article 72 of the Constitution, [1] completed by Law 1992-125 [2] and Decrees 2004-374 [3] and 2010–146. [4]

Marie-Pierre Kœnig French general

Marie Joseph Pierre François Kœnig or Koenig was a French general during World War II during which he commanded a Free French Brigade at the Battle of Bir Hakeim in North Africa in 1942. He started a political career after the war and was posthumously elevated to the dignity of Marshal of France in 1984.

Michel Pierre Marie Mathieu was a French senior civil servant. He was High Commissioner of New Caledonia from 2005 to 2007 when he notoriously resigned after a disagreement with then Overseas Secretary Christian Estrosi. Chief of Staff of the French Army

The Chief of the Army Staff is the military head of the French Army. The chief directs the army staff and acts as the principal advisor to the Chief of the Defence Staff on subjects concerning the Army. As such, they ensure the operational preparedness of their service branch, express their need for military and civilian personnel, and are responsible for maintaining the discipline, morale and conduct of their troops. Special responsibilities can be assigned to them in relation to nuclear safety.

The Chief of the Defence Staff is the military head of the Armed Forces of the French Republic, ensuring the commandment of all military operations. They are responsible to the Minister of the Armed Forces and their deputy is the Major General of the Defence Staff. Since the 1950s, the office has been held only by four stars generals (OF–9), either from the Army, the Navy, or the Air and Space Force. The current Chief is General Thierry Burkhard since 22 July 2021.

René Bidal is a French senior civil servant. He served as High Commissioner of the Republic in French Polynesia and earlier was Prefect of the departments of Eure, Pyrénées-Orientales, and Hautes-Pyrénées. He had previously served in a variety of positions in Eure-et-Loir (1986–89), Landes (1992–93), Finistère (1993–96), Aveyron (1996–98), Guingamp (1998–2000), Charente-Maritime (2000–03), Hauts-de-Seine (2003–06), Béthune (2006–08), and Rhône (2008–10).

François Lecointre French general

François Gérard Marie Lecointre is a French army general who served as the Chief of the Defence Staff between 2017 and 2021. As a captain, with Lieutenant Bruno Heluin as the company commanding officer, he was one of the two heroes of the Battle of Vrbanja Bridge in 1995, the last fixed bayonet charge combat of the French Armed Forces.
