Presteid is a village in the municipality of Hamarøy in Nordland county, Norway. It is located immediately east of the village of Oppeid, along the Presteidfjorden. Presteid is part of the Oppeid urban area which has a population (2018) of 551. [2]

The village is the location of Hamarøy Church, the main church for the municipality. The famous Norwegian author Knut Hamsun lived in this village from the age of 9 until 14. He often wrote about Presteid in his works. The Knut Hamsun Centre is located in Presteid, and it is a museum about the author and his works. Stoklands Bilruter, a bus company, was based here until it was merged with Saltens Bilruter. [3]

Hamarøy Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Hamarøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Presteid. It is the church for the Hamarøy parish which is part of the Ofoten prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, modern, concrete church was built in a fan-shaped style in 1974 by the architect Nils Toft. The church seats about 400 people.

Hamarøyskaftet is a mountain in Hamarøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The 612-metre (2,008 ft) mountain is a characteristic landmark of the region. It is located about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) west of the villages of Oppeid and Presteid and about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) north of the village of Skutvika. The mountain was first ascended by Martin Hoff Ekroll in 1885.

Nordfold (municipality) Former municipality in Nordland, Norway

Nordfold is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The 561-square-kilometre (217 sq mi) municipality existed from 1906 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality surrounded the Nordfolda branch off of the Folda fjord in what is now Steigen Municipality, plus a small portion of the present-day Sørfold Municipality. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Nordfold, where the Nordfold Church is located.
