It is situated some four kilometres south of the town of Stratford-upon-Avon. The population of the civil parish as at the 2011 census was 244. [2] As its name suggests, the village stands on the River Stour, which flows northward, just east of the village centre. The A3400 main road parallels the river about one kilometre further east. To the east of the village lies the country estate of Alscot Park with its Grade I listed Georgian mansion house. Historically Preston was a part of the county of Gloucestershire but the parish was transferred to Warwickshire on 1 April 1931. [3] The village church is dedicated to Saint Mary. [4] The village formerly had a Junior school and Infant school but this was closed in 1974. [5]
The children's television show Teletubbies was filmed at Wimpstone, about two kilometres south of the village.[ citation needed ]
East Stour is a village and civil parish in the ceremonial county of Dorset in southern England. It lies within the Dorset administrative district, about two miles south of the town of Gillingham. It is on the east bank of the River Avon and is some 5 miles (8 km) south of the town of Warwick which is easily accessed by the A429 road. Between 1980 and 1985 extensive excavations in advance of gravel digging revealed a cemetery which contained both Roman and Anglo-Saxon graves. There were over 200 inhumations and 26 cremation burials uncovered. 116 inhumations and 24 cremations were determined to be Anglo-Saxon. 40 inhumations have been determined to be Roman, 44 inhumations could not be dated. The graves included spears, shields, knives, brooches and beads.

It is in the Brailes division of the hundred of Kington, and approximately two miles north of Shipston-on-Stour. The population taken at the 2011 census was 250. The River Stour flows past the village on the western side and has a 5-arched 17th-century bridge crossing it. Honington contains approximately 60 houses within the parish boundary, including the half-timbered Magpie Cottage, and Shoemaker's Cottage situated on the Green opposite the gates and lodge entrance to Honington Hall which was built in 1682 by Sir Henry Parker. The Church of All Saints has been re-built, but retains a 13th-century tower.
