The Promax Awards (formerly known as the PromaxBDA Awards now known as the Global Entertainment Marketing Academy Awards (GEMA Awards)) are for entertainment marketing, promotion, and design by a company or individual that is broadcast, published, or released in their respective markets. [1] [2]
The Global Entertainment Marketing Academy Awards (branded as "GEMA Awards") sponsors awards competitions at the global level which include Music, Sports, Video Games, Film, TV and Streaming, as well regional awards for TV and Streaming across North America, Latin America, Europe, the United Kingdom, Africa, Asia, India, and Australia and New Zealand. There is also a competition at the local level in the United States and Canada.
The awards categories include network TV, TV stations, cable networks, cable systems, network radio, radio stations, syndication distributors, and interactive media. At one point, they also included the Brandon Tartikoff Award, [3] although it has not been awarded in several years. In 2024, Promax rebranded as The Global Entertainment Marketing Academy of Arts & Sciences (G.E.M.A.) and announced an expansion beyond TV and Streaming into the Film, Music, Sports, and Gaming industries. [4]
Winners in the past have included FX Networks, Showtime, Red Bee Media, HBO, A&E Networks, 4Creative, Les Télécréateurs Paris, [5] [6] Rogers Media, and Bell Media Agency. [7] [8]
Promax was established in 1956 as a non-profit association for promotion and marketing professionals working in broadcast media. In 1997, the Broadcast Design Association (BDA) who had partnered with Promax for years on their annual conference, officially joined with Promax. [9]
The PromaxBDA awards replaced earlier awards presented separately by Promax and the Broadcast Designers Association (BDA). Thousands of PromaxBDA awards have been presented to companies and individuals whose work is judged by a panel of promotion and marketing professionals using three measures: overall creativity, production quality, and results in achieving marketing objectives.
Founded in the United States in 1956 as the Broadcast Promotion Association (BPA), in 1985, the organization changed its name to Broadcast Promotion & Marketing Executives (BPME). In 1993, the organization again changed its name to PROMAX (a loose acronym for Promotion and Marketing Executives). [10] A merger with the Broadcast Design Association (BDA) in 1997 created PromaxBDA. In 2019, the organization dropped BDA and reverted to Promax. In 2024, Promax rebranded to The Global Entertainment Marketing Academy of Arts & Sciences (G.E.M.A).
The association holds conferences, award competitions and online publications [11] for their members, and present networking opportunities. [2] Stacy La Cotera is the current President & CEO. [12] The Board of Directors is composed of senior entertainment marketing executives and is currently chaired by Linnea Hemenez, SVP of International Marketing Starz and Alan Beard, CEO of Synonymous Technologies. Previous Promax chairs include, Steph Sebbag, CEO of Los Angeles–based creative agency BPG, Joe Earley, head of marketing for Disney+, (formerly COO, Fox Television Group, [13] Lisa Gregorian, President & CMO, Warner Bros. Jeff Pinilla (/ˌp ih nee yah /; Colombian Spanish:; is a writer, producer, director, and editor. Since graduating from Full Sail University in 2009, he has been nominated for 11 Emmy awards, has won 5 Promax Gold Awards, and was awarded the "Ron Scalera Rocket Award" at the PromaxBDA 2012 Awards. In his years since graduating, Jeff has also successfully produced three short films, "Numbers on a Napkin", a short documentary titled "The first 36 hours: an inside look at Hurricane Sandy." and was recently awarded "Best Narrative Short Film" at the 2013 Woodstock Film Festival for "The earth, the way I left it." His first major recognition in the industry came in the summer of 2010, when he was credited for his work as producer and photographer on a print campaign for New Yorks WPIX 11 newscast. His work garnered him a Promax Gold Award for "best consumer print advertisement."

RushTera is software as a service, that provides accelerated upload/download, storage, sharing and management of large media files. RushTera was first demonstrated in April 2012 at the NAB Show. The product is marketed by the New York company Attend LLC, which was founded in 2008. In 2012, RushTera was deployed on CloudSigma , but has since been redeployed on private infrastructure provided by Unitas Global. Attend's content ingest network, uses geographically distributed virtual machines to eliminate latency and provide fast uploads and downloads of huge files. RushTera became generally available in November 2012. Since then RushTera has been used by Focus Features during post production on several major motion pictures including Academy Award winner Dallas Buyers Club, as well as Kill The Messenger, The World's End, Black Sea, and Admission. Promax/BDA used RushTera as the submissions platform for its Hot Spots Showcase in both 2013 and 2014. Company CEO Chuck Stormon was interviewed in January 2013. Attend LLC / RushTera was selected as an alternate finalist in 43North, the largest business idea competition in the world.
