Pulusuk or Houk Island is a village and municipality in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. [1]

It is a small island that lies at the end of a 55 km (34 mi) long submerged atoll. Pulusuk is part of the Pattiw group, located 244 km (152 mi) to the west of Chuuk. [2]

The first recorded sighting by Europeans was by Spanish naval officer Juan Antonio de Ibargoitia commanding the vessel Filipino in 1799. He charted it as Bartolomé. [3] [4] [5]

Houk Airfield consists of a paved 1,350 feet (410 m) runway that cuts through the forested south end of the island. [6] The rudimentary airport is not serviced (no passenger terminal, no hangars or no fuel). Caroline Islands Air has chartered flights to the airfield.

The Federated States of Micronesia or simply Micronesia, is an island country in Oceania. Satawan

Paramushir

Paramushir, is a volcanic island in the northern portion of Kuril Islands chain in the Sea of Okhotsk in the northwest Pacific Ocean. It is separated from Shumshu by the very narrow Second Kuril Strait in the northeast 2.5 km (1.6 mi), from Antsiferov by the Luzhin Strait to the southwest, from Atlasov in the northwest by 20 km (12 mi), and from Onnekotan in the south by the 40 km (25 mi) wide Fourth Kuril Strait. Its northern tip is 39 km (24 mi) from Cape Lopatka at the southern tip of the Kamchatka Peninsula. Its name is derived from the Ainu language, from “broad island” or “populous island”. Severo-Kurilsk, the administrative center of the Severo-Kurilsky district, is the only permanently populated settlement on Paramushir island.

Pattiw

Pattiw or Western Islands is the name of the westernmost area of the State of Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia, consisting of the three islands or atolls of Houk, Poluwat and Pollap, with a total land area of 7.17 square kilometres and a population of 2,736. Pattiw is one of three areas of Chuuk's Northwestern Region, Oksoritod. Poluwat is attached to the large Uranie Bank and lies in the northwest corner of the bank, while Houk (Pulusuk) marks the southeastern point of Manila Reef.

Ifalik

Ifalik is a coral atoll of four islands in the central Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean, and forms a legislative district in Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia. Ifalik is located approximately 40 kilometres (25 mi) east of Woleai and 700 kilometres (430 mi) southeast of the island of Yap. The population of Ifalik was 561 in 2000, living on 1.5 km2. The primary islets of Ifalik are called Ella, Elangelap, Rawaii, and Falalop, which is the atoll's main island.

Losap is an atoll located in the Eastern Islands or Upper Mortlock Islands group in the outer islands region of the state of Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia. It is located 81 km (50 mi) to the SE of Chuuk.

Sapwuahfik

Sapwuahfik, formerly Ngatik, or the Raven Islands is a 110-square-kilometre (42 sq mi) atoll of the Federated States of Micronesia. It is a village and municipality of roughly 430 people on a land area of 1.5 square kilometres (0.58 sq mi) in the state of Pohnpei.

Piagailoe Atoll of the Caroline Islands

Piagailoe Atoll is an uninhabited atoll in the State of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia, geographically part of the Caroline Islands. It is located 71 kilometers northeast of Lamotrek, 71 kilometers northwest of Satawal and 945 kilometers southeast of Yap island. This atoll lies at the western end of a chain of submarine mountains that extend westwards of the Gray Feather Bank for about 180 km. The Condor Reef, Pikelot and the Oraitilipu Bank belong to this underwater feature as well. In order to distinguish this atoll from Fayu Atoll in Chuuk State, located about 500 km to the east, this atoll is also known as West Fayu.

Fayu Atoll is an uninhabited atoll in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. It is located 36 km to the west of Nomwin Atoll and 104 km north of Chuuk Lagoon.

Nomoi Islands

The Nomoi Islands, also known as Mortlock Islands, are a group of three large atolls in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. They are located about 250 kilometres to the southeast of Chuuk.

Etal Atoll

Etal or Ettal is an island and municipality in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. Etal is part of the Nomoi Islands group, located about 250 km to the southeast of Chuuk.
