History

The predecessor RRBs were set up between 1976 and 2008 to expand formal credit delivery in rural Punjab under the Regional Rural Banks Act, 1976. [3] In September 2018, the Department of Financial Services issued a notification approving the consolidation of Punjab’s RRBs into a single institution to improve credit flow, reduce operational overlap and strengthen rural banking infrastructure. [4] The bank began operations as a merged entity on 1 January 2019 with its head office in Kapurthala. [5]
