The Purdue University College of Science is one of eight major academic divisions of Purdue University. The science courses offered by the College of Science account for about one-fourth of Purdue's one million student credit hours. [4]

The College of Science contains seven minor academic divisions, or Departments .

Location

The College of Science, originally contained within Stanley Coulter Hall, has since dispersed to occupy many different buildings of the main campus in West Lafayette, Indiana. For example, the Biology Department is located in Lilly Hall of Life Sciences, the Mathematics Department in the Mathematical Sciences Building, the Statistics Department in the Felix Haas Hall and part of the Mathematical Sciences Building, the Physics Department in the Physics Building, and most of the Computer Science Department in the Lawson Computer Science Building (with the rest in the Felix Haas Hall). Other departments are similarly scattered throughout the campus.

History

Classes in the sciences have been taught since Purdue opened in 1874. In 1875, the first degree from Purdue a bachelor's degree in chemistry was granted in science. The School of Science was formally established in 1907. It was reorganized several times afterwards. In 1953, liberal arts and education were integrated into the school and the name was changed to the School of Science, Education, and Humanities. The school was again restructured 1963, at which point the liberal arts and education divisions were removed the School of Science achieved its present form. In 2004, the School of Science was renamed the College of Science. All other schools at Purdue were renamed with the exceptions of the Krannert School of Management and the School of Veterinary Medicine. The College of Science celebrated its centennial in 2007 with lectures by the MythBusters and Jane Goodall. [5]

The Texas A&M College of Science is the science college of Texas A&M University in College Station. The faculty includes a Nobel laureate and three National Academy of Sciences members. In 2006, the faculty collected a combined $38.5 million in peer-reviewed federal funding, and annually generates over $5 million in indirect cost return for Texas A&M.

Saint Michaels College of Laguna

Saint Michael's College of Laguna (SMCL) is an autonomous college in Biñan City, Laguna, Philippines, formerly known as Biñan College. SMCL was founded by the nine Limaco sisters, on August 25, 1975. Luisa Limaco-De Leon provided the idea of building the school, Pura Limaco financed the school's operations, while Milagros Limaco, a teacher, was later elected as the chairman of the board and director of the school. The school was named after the Limaco patriarch, Miguel, a philanthropist.

Sambalpur University

Angelina College

Angelina College is a public community college with its main campus in Lufkin, Texas. It has nine off-campus centers in Crockett, Hemphill, Jasper, Livingston, Nacogdoches, Pineland, San Augustine, Trinity, and Woodville. Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences

The Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (BSNES) is a fully accredited degree-granting institution and the primary college of undergraduate and graduate scientific research at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was formed in 1994 with the separation of the Biological Sciences, Chemistry, and Biochemistry departments from the former College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and subsequently named in honor of the Bayer Corporation. The school currently houses the departments of Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environmental Science & Management, Forensic Science & Law, and Physics. The school also collaborates closely with the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy. In 2010, the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry was designated as a Mass Spectrometry Center of Excellence by Agilent Technologies, allowing for collaborative research into metabolics, proteomics, disease biomarkers, and environmental analysis. In 2011, Duquesne University became one of 98 universities nationwide, and one of nine Catholic universities, to be designated as a high research activity institution by the Carnegie Foundation.

The Purdue University College of Liberal Arts is one of eight colleges of Purdue University. In addition to liberal arts programs, the College of Liberal Arts also contains the arts, social sciences and humanities programs at Purdue.

The College of Pharmacy is one of eight major academic divisions, or Colleges, of Purdue University. It was established in 1884, and is the 3rd oldest state-funded school of pharmacy in the United States. The school has consistently ranked highly among its peer institutions.

Siena College

Siena College is a private Franciscan liberal arts college in Loudonville, New York. Siena was founded by the Order of Friars Minor in 1937. The college was named after Bernardino of Siena, a 15th-century Italian Franciscan friar and preacher. St. Bernardine of Siena Friary is located on campus. It has 3,000 full-time students and offers undergraduate degrees in business, liberal arts, and sciences.

Malatya Science High School is a public boarding school located in Malatya, Turkey. It was established in 1986 by Yahya Ozkan with the approbation of Ministry of National Education.
