Al Fulk (L141) is an amphibious transport dock of the Qatari Emiri Navy. [4]
The ship was built by the Italian firm Fincantieri as an enlarged and improved version of the San Giorgio class similar to the Algerian Kalaat Béni Abbès. The ship measures 143 metres (469 ft 2 in) long and 21.5 metres (70 ft 6 in) wide. [4]
Al Fulk has a continuous flight deck with two deck-landing spots for helicopters at the bow and stern. Besides its role as an amphibious transport dock, Al Fulk is also tasked with ballistic missile defense.
Al Fulk was ordered in 2016, with her keel being laid in 2021. [1] Her launch took place on 24 January 2023. [2] [3] Her sea trials started in May 2024. [5]
On 29 November 2024, she was finally delivered to the Qatari Navy. [6]
The San Antonio class is a class of amphibious transport docks, also called a "landing platform, dock" (LPD), used by the United States Navy. These warships replace the Austin-class LPDs, as well as the Newport-class tank landing ships, the Anchorage-class dock landing ships, and the Charleston-class amphibious cargo ships that have already been retired.
The Albion-class landing platform dock is a class of amphibious warfare ship in service with the Royal Navy. The class consists of two vessels, HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark, ordered in 1996 to replace the ageing Fearless class. Both ships were built by BAE Systems Marine at the former Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering yard in Barrow-in-Furness. Albion was commissioned in 2003 and Bulwark in 2005. Each of the ships has a crew of 325 and can accommodate up to 405 troops. Thirty-one large trucks and thirty-six smaller vehicles and main battle tanks can be carried inside the vehicle deck. To disembark troops and vehicles, the vessels are equipped with eight landing craft. As of 2024, both vessels were in reserve. In November 2024, the newly elected Labour government indicated that the ships would be removed from service by March 2025.
USS Somerset (LPD-25) is a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock of the United States Navy. It is the fourth United States Navy vessel and the second warship to bear this name, the first two being a wooden-hulled motorboat and a ferry.
Juan Carlos I is a multi-purpose aircraft carrier-landing helicopter dock (LHD) in the Spanish Navy. Similar in role to many aircraft carriers, the amphibious landing ship has a ski jump for STOVL operations, and is equipped with the McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II attack aircraft. She is named after US Navy officer and Medal of Honor recipient Richard M. McCool, Jr. Richard M. McCool Jr. was built by Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi. She was christened on 11 June 2022, formally delivered to the US Navy on 11 April 2024, and commissioned on 7 September 2024.
