R.L.V. Ramakrishnan is an Indian Mohiniyattam dancer and film actor from Kerala. [2] He was a Kalaprathibha from the MG University in 2001. [3] Ramakrishnan is the brother of Kalabhavan Mani and he served as the head teacher of Kalagriha started by Kalabhavan Mani in Chalakudy. He has also worked as guest lecturer at Kaladi Sanskrit University. [4] In 2022, Ramakrishnan won the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award in Mohiniyattam. [5] He also acted in five films, including Bamboo Boys (2002), Canvas (2010), Theeta Rappai (2018) and 1921: Puzha Muthal Puzha Vare (2022). He also acted in several devotional Hindu album songs. [6]
In October 2020, Ramakrishnan was denied a chance to perform Mohiniyattam in the online dance festival program of Kerala Sangeet Natak Academy which led to controversy. [7] He reportedly attempted suicide for alleged caste discrimination against him. [8]
In March 2024, a Mohiniyattam dancer Satyabhama made a comment that she did not like dark skinned males performing Mohiniyattam. [9] In protest, the next day he performed a Mohiniyattam concert in the art gallery near the Chalakkudy Government hospital. [10] The Kerala Kalamandalam condemned the racist remarks made by classical dancer Satyabhama. Kalamandalam says its name prefixed to Sathyabhama is a blight on the institution. [11]
Mohiniyattam is an Indian classical dance form originating from the state of Kerala. The dance gets its name from Mohini – the female enchantress avatar of the Hindu deity Vishnu, who helps the devas prevail over the asuras using her feminine charm.

Kalamandalam Kallyanikutty Amma was an epoch-making Mohiniyattam danseuse from Kerala in southern India. A native of Thirunavaya in Malappuram district of the state, she was instrumental in resurrecting Mohiniyattam from a dismal, near-extinct state into a mainstream Indian classical dance, rendering it formal structure and ornamentation.
Kalamandalam Padmanabhan Nair (1928–2007) was an eminent Kathakali exponent, equally known for his capacities as a tutor, theoretician and author of a few authentic texts on the classical dance-drama from Kerala in south India. A son of the Kathakali guru Pattikkamthodi Ravunni Menon, Padmanabhan Nair was one of the early-batch students in Kerala Kalamandalam, where he subsequently joined as a teacher and retired as its principal in 1990. He died on 3 April 2007, at his home in Shoranur, near his alma mater, where he led his post-professorial life with wife and Mohiniyattam exponent and guru, Kalamandalam Satyabhama.
