R. Lalthantluanga (born 1 March 1947) is a retired professor of biochemistry and the former vice chancellor of Mizoram University,India. He is the first Mizo to become vice chancellor of Indian universities,and he is the third vice chancellor of Mizoram University. He is the former head,professor and founding faculty of the Department of Biochemistry,Dean of School of Life Sciences,and pro-vice-chancellor of North Eastern Hill University.
R. Lalthantluanga was born in North Serzawl in Mizoram,India. He completed his BSc (honours) from Guwahati University in 1966,and Master of Science in 1968 and PhD in 1973 from Pune University. He entered the faculty of Ahmednagar College in 1968,and then joined the Department of Zoology,North Eastern Hill University,in 1974. He became the founder of the Department of Biochemistry of NEHU in 1980 and became its first faculty as a reader. He became full professor in 1984. He had served as the Head of the department,Dean of School of Life Sciences,and also as the pro-vice-chancellor at the Mizoram Campus of NEHU from 1990 to 2001. [1]
He has been an editor of Science Vision since 2009. [2]
In May 2011,R Lalthantluang was selected to succeed Prof AN Rai as the vice chancellor of Mizoram University,and became the first Mizo vice chancellor in India. [3]
R. Lalthantluanga started his research career on the study of haemoglobin of horses,cows and insects. [4] [5] He had contributed to a groundbreaking study on high-altitude adaptation among the Himalayan yak. [6]
North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is a Central University established on 19 July 1973 by an Act of the Indian Parliament. The university is in the suburb of Shillong,the state capital of Meghalaya,India. The university has two campuses:Shillong and Tura both are in Meghalaya. Pachhunga University College (PUC) is a public institute in Aizawl,Mizoram,and the only constituent college of Mizoram University,a central university established by an Act of Parliament of India. Founded in 1958 as Aijal College,it is the oldest and largest college in Mizoram,by enrolment and campus size. It started with intermediate of arts courses,and later expanded to bachelor's degrees in arts,commerce and science. With the opening of master's degree courses in Mizo,philosophy and life sciences,it became the first postgraduate college in Mizoram.

Pramod Tandon is an India Plant Biotechnologist and academic. He is a former Professor of Botany &Vice-Chancellor of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU),Shillong and Chief Executive Officer of Biotech Park,Lucknow. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour Padma Sri in 2009,for his contributions to science.
Talat Ahmad is an Indian Earth scientist and professor at department of geology,University of Delhi. He commenced his second stint as vice chancellor of University of Kashmir on 6 August 2018 after serving as vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia after he resigned from the post a few months short of his full term. He was shortlisted by a committee constituted by the governor to shortlist a panel for the post. He had earlier taken over as vice-chancellor of University of Kashmir from Professor Riyaz Punjabi on 1 June 2011. Prior to this,he was teaching geology at the University of Delhi.
M. Afzal Hossain is a Bangladeshi academic and scientist in the field of agriculture and biochemistry. He has been serving as vice-chancellor of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science &Technology University,Dinajpur,since September 2008. Government Saiha College is the only college in Saiha district of Mizoram,northeast India. It is the first college in southern Mizoram. It was established in 1978 as a result of public demand,and recognised by the Government of Mizoram in 1979. It started as only arts college. David Reid Syiemlieh is an Indian academician and the former Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission of India. Tanka Bahadur Subba is the present and second vice chancellor of Sikkim University in India Earlier,he was Head of Anthropology Department and Dean of School of Human and Environmental Sciences,North Eastern Hill University,Shillong,India. He was a gold medallist in MA in 1980 and his PhD,awarded in 1985 by University of North Bengal,was on "Caste,Class and Agrarian Relations in the Nepali Society of Darjeeling and Sikkim". Since then he has been researching on various aspects of the eastern Himalayas like ethnicity and development,cultural adaptation,politics of culture and identity,health and disease,and Nepali diaspora. Professor Subba has held prestigious academic positions throughout his career and has received awards like the Homi Bhabha Fellowship (Mumbai),Dr. Panchanan Mitra Lectureship and DAAD Guest professorship at the Free University of Berlin and Baden-Wuerttemberg Fellowship at the South Asian Institute of Heidelberg University.
Amar Nath Rai is a professor of biochemistry at the North Eastern Hill University,Shillong,India. He had served as Vice Chancellor of Mizoram University and North Eastern Hill University. Between 2013 and 2015 he was Director of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India.

He held the post of the president of the organization for several terms and is holding post,after getting elected in 2013. Laltluangliana Khiangte is a Mizo academic,playwright and poet of Mizo literature. He was the principal of the Serampore College and a former professor at Pachhunga University College and the North Eastern Hill University. He is presently serving as the senior most professor at the Department of Mizo at Mizoram University. He is a recipient of the Pu Buanga Award,the highest literary award of the Mizo Academy of Letters. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri,in 2006,for his contributions to Indian literature.
Sudhir Kumar Sopory is an Indian educationist,plant physiologist,scientist and former vice chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University,New Delhi. He is known to be the first to purify a protein kinase C activity from plants and is credited with the identification of topoisomerase as a substrate of protein kinase C. He is an elected Fellow of several major Indian science academies and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and is a recipient of many honours,including the 1987 Shanti Swarup Bhatangar Prize,the highest Indian award in the science and technology categories. Veena Tandon is an Indian parasitologist,academic and a NASI senior scientist at Biotech Park,Lucknow. She is a former professor of zoology at the North Eastern Hill University and serves as the chief instigator for the North-East India Helminth Parasite Information Database. She is known for her researches on worm infections afflicting the animals of food value and is the author of two books and several articles on parasitology.
Kalappa Muniyappa is an Indian molecular biologist and geneticist,known for his researches on the chromatization of DNA and gene targeting. He is a professor and chairman of the department of biochemistry of the Indian Institute of Science and an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy,Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences,India. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research,the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research,awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology,one of the highest Indian science awards,in 1995,for his contributions to biological sciences.
Syed Zafar Hasnain Zaidi Urdu:سیدظفرحسنینزیدیwas a Pakistani scientific researcher,and professor who introduced the concept of Protein Chemistry in Pakistan. He served as Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi,Pakistan. He was decorated twice by the Government of Pakistan for his contributions to Scientific Research in Pakistan,being awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 1989 and Sitar-e-Imtiaz in 1995. He was also awarded the Khwarizmi International Award in 1992 by the Government of Iran for his research in Science.
Professor Akbar Masood is the Vice Chancellor at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Jammu and Kashmir. Before joining Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University,he served as the Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Kashmir. He has a Master of Sciences from Aligarh Muslim University and a PhD from the Indian Institute of Toxicology Research. He remained associated with the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Kashmir as a member of the faculty since 1988. He was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in February 2021.
