The RV Meteor (also Meteor III) is a multidisciplinary research vessel operating mainly on the high sea. She is owned by the German state represented by its Federal Ministry of Education and Research [3] and registered in Hamburg. [1]

RV Meteor operates mainly in the areas of the Atlantic, the eastern Pacific, and the western Indian Oceans, as well as the Mediterranean and the Baltic Seas. [3] The current Meteor is the third German research vessel in a row sharing the same name, after Meteor and RV Meteor (1964).

Until 2012, Meteor was operated by Bremerhaven based company F. Laeisz GmbH. Since January 2013 the ship has a new operator, Briese Schiffahrt in Leer. [4] It can accommodate up to 30 scientists for work in 20 laboratories on the main deck. [4]

A new ship named Meteor was ordered at Meyer Werft and Fassmer in 2022 to replace the Meteor and the Poseidon , which has already been retired, in 2026. [5] The Keel was laid on 11 July 2023. [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]

Founded in 1795 and starting with small wooden vessels, today Meyer Werft is a builder of luxury passenger ships. 700 ships of different types have been built at the yard. Its "Dockhalle 2" is the third largest shipbuilding hall and the building with the fifth-largest usable volume in the world as of 2022.

RV Maria S. Merian is Germany's second most modern research vessel, named after the naturalist and illustrator Maria Sybilla Merian. As of March 2006, Germany operates three other research vessels of its class, none of which is as well-equipped.

RV <i>Sonne</i>

The RV Sonne is a former German fishing trawler converted into a research vessel by Schichau Unterweser AG, doing mostly geoscience-related work for a variety of commercial and scientific clients. She was registered in Bremen. In 2015 she was sold to the Argentine institute CONICET and was renamed ARA Austral (Q-21). A new geoscientific research ship, also called RV Sonne, replaced her role in Germany that same year.

The Rostock S-Bahn is a S-Bahn network in Rostock in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It consists of three lines with a total length of about 90 km. Line S1 runs from Rostock Hauptbahnhof to Warnemünde within the Rostock urban area. S-Bahn operations started on 28 September 1974. Later, the lines to the north-east to the port (Seehafen) of Rostock and to the south to the town of Güstrow via Schwaan were included in the S-Bahn network. The line to the port was discontinued in 2012, but at same time the line to Güstrow via Laage was included as line S3 of the S-Bahn. Until 2014 the rolling stock mainly consisted of push–pull trains with Waggonbau Görlitz double-deck coaches. Since then all lines have been operated with new Bombardier Talent 2 railcars.

Meyer Wismar is a German shipbuilding company, headquartered in Wismar. After June 1, 1990 it was part of the Deutschen Maschinen- und Schiffbau AG, from 2009 it was part of the Nordic Yards Holding GmbH, and in 2016 it became part of the Lloyd Werft Group. In June 2022 Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) acquired the Wismar site of MV Werften. In November 2022, a lease agreement was signed with Meyer Werft to complete the Global Dream with the yard renamed Meyer Wismar.

Warnemünde station is located in the seaside resort of Warnemünde, a district of the Hanseatic city of Rostock in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. <i>Icon</i>-class cruise ship Class of Royal Caribbean International cruise ships

The Icon class is a class of cruise ships ordered by Royal Caribbean International to be built by Meyer Turku in Turku, Finland. As of 2024 this class is the largest cruise ship class ever constructed. Royal Caribbean plans to have three Icon-class ships by 2026.

<i>Global</i>-class cruise ship Class of German cruise ships

The Global class is a class of cruise ships constructed by the German shipbuilder MV Werften for Genting Hong Kong. With Genting’s bankruptcy in 2022, the future of the Global class was in doubt. <i>Spirit of Adventure</i> (2020 ship) Cruise ship operated by Saga Cruises

Spirit of Adventure is a cruise ship operated by Saga Cruises and constructed by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany. As Saga's second new-build vessel, she was originally considered as an option in the cruise line's pursuit to renew its fleet, but the company finalised the order in 2017 after seeing rising profits in its travel business following the announcement of her sister ship, Spirit of Discovery. Her keel was laid on 3 June 2019 and she was delivered on 29 September 2020, but in response to travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the inaugural cruise was continuously postponed until she officially debuted on 26 July 2021.

<i>Sea-Watch 4</i> A former German research ship.

The Humanity 1 is a German Search and Rescue Ship. The former German research ship is owned by Sea-Watch e. V. who are using the ship for SAR operations of refugees in distress on the Mediterranean Sea. Previously, the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (GEOMAR) operated the ship under the name of Poseidon, after the Greek god of the sea, with the State of Schleswig-Holstein as the owner. In January 2020 the ship was auctioned and bought by Sea-Watch e. V. and renamed Sea-Watch 4 on 20 February 2020.
