Telecommunications had an early beginning in Mauritius, with the first telephone line installed in 1883, seven years after the invention of the telephone. Over the years, the network and telephony improved. By the late 20th century, the rapid development and convergence of information and telecommunications technologies gave rise to an ICT industry on the island along with many incentives provided by the government. The government thus aims to make the ICT sector the 5th pillar of the Mauritian economy and Mauritius a Cyber Island. Historically, the country is known for tourism, rather than its call centers and business process outsourcing.

Hokonui also from April 2015 was broadcasting in Taranaki until late in 2020 when it was disestablished by NZME and replaced by Gold AM. The name Hokonui comes from the Hokonui Hills which can clearly be seen in Gore and the Southland Plains.

Red Rose Radio was an Independent Local Radio station serving Preston, Blackpool and surrounding areas in Lancashire, England. The station's core audience is between 15 and 50 years, with ratings indicating loyalty of more than 65% and Opportunity to Hear (OTH) of over 1,800,000 every week.

He is a member of the Public Accounts Committee and the parliamentary representative for Mauritius at the World Trade Organization. Fowdar previously served as the Ministry of Training, Skills, Development, Productivity and External Communications of Mauritius in the cabinet of Sir Anerood Jugnauth from 2000 to 2003 and Paul Berenger from 2003 to 2005. He was first elected as member of parliament for Flacq & Bon Accueil in 2000, the constituency of former Vice-Prime Minister Anil Bachoo, where he was a Cabinet Minister. Fowdar was educated at EW Fact in Holborn, London.

It began operation on May 2, 2019 with a Private Commercial Free to Air FM Radio Broadcasting Licence issued by the Independent Broadcasting Authority-Mauritius. On a letter dated 3 August 2020, the Independent Broadcasting Authority (Mauritius) revoked the licence of the radio for non-compliance with the Information and Communication Technologies Act 2001.
