Radio West is an FM radio station based in Western Region, Uganda. [3] It is based in Mbarara with four additional repeaters. The station is owned by the Vision Group.

Radio West's audio stream is available on cable service Azam TV, further expanding Radio West's coverage to Zimbabwe, Malawi, Kenya, and Tanzania.

History

Radio West began broadcasting on 10 April 1999 under the ownership of James R Tumusiime; [2] it was acquired by the Vision Group in 2008. [4] Radio West, along with TV West and the Orumuri News newspaper, moved into new custom-built offices in Mbarara in 2015. [5]

In 2019, the station was tied for second in audience reach, with 4 percent of the audience. [1] The station has been criticized for its pro-government editorial stance. [1]

James Rwehabura Tumusiime is a Ugandan author, journalist, and entrepreneur. He was born in 1950 in Rugando in Mbarara District. He is mostly known for spearheading the founding of The New Vision in 1986, Fountain Publishers in 1988, the National Book Trust of Uganda (NABOTU) in 1997, 100.2 Fm Radio West in 1998, and Igongo Cultural Centre in 2008. He was the author of what makes Africans Laugh. He has served on several international boards, including African Publishers Network (APNET), the o (AABC) and the International Board of Books for Young People (IBBY). He served as Chairman of Council of Mbarara University of Science and Technology and chairman of the Uganda Tourism Board.

WBS Television known as Wavah Broadcasting Service is a Ugandan based television station owned by city billionaire Gordon Wavamunno. On December 14, 2016, it ceased to operate as a public broadcaster after it was put under receivership over Shs7.2b tax arrears by URA.

Kakyeka Stadium is the main City sports Arena or Stadium In Mbarara City in Western Region, Uganda. The Stadium is in the West side of the main city and It has the capacity of over 10000 people. It is currently used as the home ground for Mbarara City FC, a football Club playing in Uganda's top league Uganda Premier League.
