The Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar (RNA) is a tennis training center on the island of Mallorca, Spain. It was founded in 2016 by tennis great Rafael Nadal and located in his hometown of Manacor. The inaugural director is Toni Nadal, Rafa's uncle and longtime coach.

History and facilities

Nadal founded the Rafa Nadal Foundation in 2008 and opened his first tennis school, the Nadal Educational Tennis School, in the Anantapur Sports Village in India in 2010. [1] [2] [3]

The Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor broke ground in November 2014. [4] [5] Operations began in June 2016 and an opening ceremony was held on 19 October 2016. [6] At its opening, the academy was led by Toni Nadal (who stepped away from coaching his nephew the following year) [7] and Nadal's longtime agent Carlos Costa. [8] Nadal's new coach, former world No. 1 Carlos Moyá, was the technical director. [9]

The campus in Manacor has 23 hard courts (19 outdoor, 4 indoor), 20 clay courts (13 outdoor, 7 semi-indoor), 12 padel courts (6 outdoor, 6 indoor), two squash courts, a football pitch, and two swimming pools (outdoor and indoor). [10] There are also a sports medicine facility and an international school, the Rafa Nadal International School, for 10- to 18-year-olds. [1] [6]

Among the tournaments held on the site is the Rafa Nadal Open on the ATP Challenger Tour. [1]

Antonio "Toni" Nadal Homar is a Spanish tennis coach. Toni Nadal is the uncle and ex-coach of tennis player Rafael Nadal, the elder brother of Spanish professional footballer Miguel Ángel Nadal, and the current coach of tennis player Félix Auger-Aliassime. With 16 major titles won as the coach of his nephew Rafael Nadal, he was the most successful coach in tennis history until Marián Vajda and his player Novak Djokovic won their 17th major title together in 2020.

It was the 65th edition of the event and part of the ATP World Tour 500 series of the 2017 ATP World Tour. It took place at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, from 24 April until 30 April 2017. Third-seeded Rafael Nadal won the singles title.

Three-time defending champion Rafael Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, 6–0, 6–2, 7–5 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2020 French Open. It was his record-extending 13th French Open title and 20th major title overall, equaling Roger Federer's all-time record of men's singles titles. For the fourth time in his career, Nadal won the title without dropping a set during the tournament ; for the first time in French Open history, neither the men's nor women's singles champions lost a set. Nadal also became the first player, male or female, to win 100 matches at the French Open and only the second man, after Federer at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, to win 100 matches at the same major. Djokovic was attempting to become the first man in the Open Era to achieve the double career Grand Slam. Instead, he suffered his worst ever defeat in a grand slam final, managing to win only seven games. Djokovic lost the first set 6-0 and 12 of the first 14 games.

Rafael Nadal defeated Casper Ruud in the final, 6–3, 6–3, 6–0 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2022 French Open. It was his record-extending 14th French Open title and record-extending 22nd major title overall. It marked the first time in his career that he won the Australian Open and the French Open in the same calendar year. Nadal also became the third man to defeat four top 10 players en route to a major title since the introduction of ATP rankings in 1973. Ruud became the first Norwegian man to reach a major quarterfinal and beyond, and the first Scandinavian man to do so since Robin Söderling in 2010.

Defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–3) to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters. He became the sixth player to win consecutive titles at the Monte-Carlo Masters in the Open Era. The win also earned him his second Masters 1000 title and his eighth career singles title overall.

The 2023 Rafa Nadal Open was a professional tennis tournament played on hard courts. It was the fifth edition of the tournament which was part of the 2023 ATP Challenger Tour. It took place in Manacor, Spain between 29 August and 3 September 2023.

The 2024 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell is a men's tennis tournament to be played on outdoor clay courts at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain, from 15 to 21 April 2024. It will be the 71st edition of the event and part of the ATP Tour 500 series of the 2024 ATP Tour.
