Justice Rahila Hadea Cudjoe OFR (born 6 October 1948) is a retired Nigerian jurist and former Chief Judge of Kaduna State. She is the first female Chief judge in Kaduna State and served from 1996 to 2014. [1] She is also first female Lawyer in North Western State as well as the first female Legal Draftsman in Kaduna State. [2] [3]

Early life and education

Justice Rahila was born in Zaria, Kaduna State, in 1948. She attended Our Ladies High School, Kaduna and Government Girls College, Dala, Kano before gaining admission to study law at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Rahila was then called to the Nigerian Bar in 1973. [2]

Career

Rahila began her legal career as a State Counsel in the Kaduna State's Ministry of Justice. In 1979, she was appointed a Legal Draftsman of the Ministry of Justice, Kaduna and a Legislative Counsel to the Kaduna State House of Assembly. In 1983, she was appointed a Judge of the Kaduna State High Court. [4] Under the administration of the former Governor Lawal Kaita of Kaduna State, Rahila was appointed a Chief Judge of the State. In 1992, Rahila lead a Commission of Inquiry into the Zangon-Kataf crises, which produced two reports on the cause of the violence. [2] [5] In 2020, 28 years later, the Kaduna State Executive Council established a committee to draft a White Paper on the two reports produced by Rahila's Commission. [6]

Air Vice-Marshal Usman Mu'azu (1942–2008) was the military governor of Kaduna State, Nigeria, from January 1984 to August 1985 during the military regime of General Muhammadu Buhari. Mu'azu was born in Kwoi, Northern Region of Nigeria, in 1942. He attended Provincial Secondary School, Zaria, and the Institute of Administration, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He attended the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, and had further training in West Germany and the United States of America. Muazu served in various capacities in the Nigeria Air force, including service in the Nigeria Air force Command, Command and Staff College, Jaji and Command Training College, Kaduna. He was administrator of Nigerian Airways and Air Officer Commanding Training Command, Nigerian Air Force before being appointed military governor of Kaduna State in January 1984.

Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic is a tertiary education institution in Zaria Kaduna State, Nigeria. The genesis of the 1992 Zangon Kataf crises could at least be traced to the onset of the British imperial regime in the Northern Region of Nigeria, in which the Atyap people began reporting the loss of land to the Hausas. In 1922, it was reported that a large piece of land was acquired by the Emir of Zaria, Dalhatu Uthman Yero, who failed to compensate the indigenous population of the region. In 1966, the land was provided to the Hausa trading settlement in the heart of Mabatado, called "Zangon Kataf", by the emir, Muhammad Usman. The Atyap resided within the district, in the Zaria Province of the Northern Region of, initially, British Nigeria, which became independent Nigeria. It was to remain utilized as a marketplace, where the indigenous Atyap people were banned from trading pork and beer by the settlers.

Ayet Atyap Annual Cultural Festival is an age-long chain of festive activities and ceremonies observed by the Atyap people of Southern Kaduna, Middle Belt Nigeria. It was traditionally carried out to usher in the farming season for the year between mid-March and mid-April and was organized by male members, the Aku clan who have already been initiated into the Abwoi cult. Of recent, the event has been shifted to December and celebrated in the Agwatyap's palace square in Atak Njei, Zangon Kataf LGA, southern Kaduna State. It is usually well attended by important guests from within and outside the state, including political and traditional leaders.

Toure Kazah-Toure was a Nigerian academic, activist, and pan-Africanist. His admiration for founding Guinean president, Ahmed Sékou Touré, led to his adoption of the name "Toure". He was a history lecturer and researcher at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Nigeria, with a number of publications in his name.
