Rajeev Bhardwaj is an Indian politician belonging from the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is the member of the 18th Lok Sabha. [1]

Early life

Rajeev Bhardwaj was originally a resident of the Mangwal in Kangra district’s Dehra tehsil. However, his family was evicted from the village following the construction of the Pong Dam in the 1970s. Bhardwaj continues to identify himself as a Pong Dam evictee as many families are yet to receive their promised compensation and subsequent land allocation. [2] [3]

Political career

Bhardwaj currently serves as the Member of Lok Sabha from the Kangra constituency. He was elected in the 2024 Indian general elections with a margin of 251,895 votes defeating his nearest rival candidate Anand Sharma. [4]

Hamirpur City is surrounded by Pine tree forests and has a good city infrastructure ranging from quality educational institutions, NIT, State Universities and Skill Learning centres.

Shanta Kumar Sharma is an Indian politician who was the 3rd Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and a Union Minister in the Government of India. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was elected to the 9th Lok Sabha from Kangra constituency in 1989. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1998, 1999 and 2014 from the same constituency. He has written a number of books. He is the first and only person not of a Rajput background who has served as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.

Pandit Sukh Ram was an Indian politician who served as the Minister of Communications and Information Technology from 1993 to 1996. He was a member of Lok Sabha from the Mandi constituency of Himachal Pradesh. He won the Vidhan Sabha elections five times and the Lok Sabha elections three times. He is the father of politician Anil Sharma and grandfather of actor Aayush Sharma. In 2011 he was sentenced to 5 years in jail for corruption when he was Communications Minister in 1996.

Amethi is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This constituency covers the entire Amethi district and was created in 1967. Its first member of parliament (MP) was Vidya Dhar Bajpai of the Indian National Congress (INC) who was elected in 1967 and held his seat in the next election in 1971. In the 1977 election, Ravindra Pratap Singh of the Janata Party became its MP. Singh was defeated in 1980 by Sanjay Gandhi of the INC. Later the same year, Gandhi died in a plane crash. Her son, Rahul Gandhi, was elected in 2004. He was the fourth MP from the Nehru–Gandhi family since 1980 to represent the seat. Gandhi held the seat till the 2019 election when he was defeated by a margin of 55,000 votes by the BJP's Smriti Irani. Irani was defeated in 2024 by a margin of over 1.69 lakh votes by Kishori Lal Sharma of INC.

Dr Rajan Sushant is an Indian politician and a member of Aam Aadmi Party. In the 2009 election he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Kangra constituency in Himachal Pradesh on BJP ticket. He is a former member of Bhartiya Janata Party.
