Satyabrata Mukherjee (born 23 October 1950),better known as Raju Mukherjee,is an Indian former cricket player,coach,selector,match referee and writer. He is the author of the book Eden Gardens:Legend and Romance.
Mukherjee played as a right-handed batsman,making 50 first-class appearances in which he scored more than 2000 runs at an average of more than 37. He represented Bengal for ten seasons starting from 1972/73 and also captained the team in some matches. He made his first-class debut for East Zone in the 1972–73 Duleep Trophy. He was the captain of the East Zone team that played against the touring Pakistani team in 1980. [1] Mukherjee's final first class appearance came in December 1981 at the age of 31. [2]
A former coach, [3] [4] Mukherjee had previously worked for the Board of Control for Cricket in India as a Talent Resource Development Officer (TRDO) of the Talent Resource Development Wing. Former Bengal captain Prakash Poddar and Mukherjee are regarded as the two TRDOs who first spotted Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 2003. [5]
Mukherjee worked as a match referee from the 2006/07 season to the 2012/13 season, [6] officiating in domestic tournaments including the Indian Premier League. [7] He was appointed as the chairman of the senior team selection committee of the Cricket Association of Bengal in 2014, [8] but stepped down from the post in November 2015. [9] In October 2014,Mukherjee released a book authored by himself called Eden Gardens:Legend and Romance,marking the 150th anniversary of Eden Gardens. [10] [11]
Mukherjee's elder brother Debabrata Mukherjee (Deb Mukherjee) had also played first-class cricket for Bengal as an opening batsman in the 1960s and 1970s. [12]
Mohammad Azharuddin is an Indian politician and a former cricketer who also served as the Indian national cricket team's captain. He was a right-handed middle order batter and an occasional medium fast bowler. He played 99 Test matches and 334 One Day Internationals for India. As a captain,he led the team to wins in the 1990-91 and 1995 Asia Cups and reached the semi-finals of the 1996 Cricket World Cup. He captained India in three Cricket World Cups,the most by any Indian captain,all during the 1990s. He was also a part of the Indian squad which won the 1985 World Championship of Cricket.

With India,Srinath was a member of the Indian team that was the joint-winners of the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy,a title they shared with Sri Lanka,and was a member of the team that were runners-up in the 2003 Cricket World Cup.
Sourav Chandidas Ganguly,also known as Dada,is an Indian cricket commentator and former cricketer. He is popularly called the Maharaja of Indian Cricket. He was captain of the Indian national cricket team and is regarded as one of India's most successful cricket captains. As captain,he led Indian national team to win the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy and reach the final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup,the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy and the 2004 Asia Cup.
Pankaj Roy was an Indian cricketer who played in 43 test matches,including once as captain. He was a right-handed opening batsman,perhaps best known for establishing the world record opening partnership in Test cricket of 413 runs,together with Vinoo Mankad,against New Zealand at Chennai. The record stood until 2008. Roy played for Bengal in domestic matches. In 2000,he was appointed as the Sheriff of Kolkata. He has been honoured with the Padma Shri. His nephew Ambar Roy and son Pranab Roy also played Test cricket for India. He was a student of Vidyasagar College. In 2016,he was posthumously awarded the C. K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award,the highest honour conferred by BCCI on a former player.
Jagmohan Dalmiya was an Indian cricket administrator and businessman from the city of Kolkata. He was the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India as well as the Cricket Association of Bengal. He had also served as the President of the International Cricket Council.
Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan (,also known as Venkat,is an Indian former international cricketer and umpire. He was a right arm off break bowler and a lower order batter. He captained the Indian cricket team in test cricket and also at the first two ICC Cricket World Cups in 1975 and 1979. He represented Tamil Nadu and South zone in domestic cricket while also playing for Derbyshire in English county cricket from 1973 to 1975.
Laxmi Ratan Shukla,is a former Indian cricketer and politician. He played as a right-handed middle-order batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler for the Bengal cricket team. He was also a player in the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders,Delhi Daredevils,and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was a member of the legislative assembly of West Bengal representing the All India Trinamool Congress. He resigned from the ministry on 5 January 2021.
Yashpal Sharma was an Indian international cricketer. He was an explosive middle order batsman who played during the 1970s and 80s and a member of the India team that won the 1983 Cricket World Cup. He represented India in 37 Tests and 42 One Day Internationals (ODIs) between 1978 and 1985. His nephew Chetan Sharma was also a cricketer. He was fondly nicknamed the Crisis Man for India.

In India,the Bengal cricket team represents the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in domestic competition. Based at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata,they have played first-class cricket since 1935. Bengal have won the Ranji Trophy twice and been runners-up 13 times. They also play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy,both of which they have won once. Several international cricketers have played for the team including Dilip Doshi,Sourav Ganguly,Deep Dasgupta,Mohammed Shami,Pankaj Roy,and Wriddhiman Saha.

Reginald Bousfield Lagden was a British businessman and sporting administrator in Calcutta. He was a double blue at the University of Cambridge,in cricket and field hockey,and went on to represent England in the latter sport,although his sporting career was interrupted by the First World War. After the war,Lagden settled in India,where he became prominent in Bengal business circles. He served as a president of the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club,and the Cricket Association of Bengal,but died in a plane crash in 1944,aged 51.
