Ram Kamal Mukherjee (born 13 September 1976) is an Indian film journalist, the former editor in chief of Stardust film magazine, biographer of Hema Malini, Mithun Chakraborty and Sanjay Dutt. He made his debut as filmmaker with Cakewalk starring Esha Deol. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] He has been regarded as one of the best Indian short filmmaker by The Times of India . [11] In 2023 he won 69th National Film Award for his short film Ek Duaa. [12]

Personal information

Ram Kamal Mukherjee completed his graduation in History from the University of Calcutta. He completed his schooling from St Joseph's College in Calcutta, and later completed his senior schooling from Khalsa Model School. After graduation he completed a diploma course in communication from the British Council, later joined Media Studies Film and Television course in University of Calcutta. [13]

Career

Mukherjee is best known as a biographer of Hema Malini's authorized biography Beyond The Dreamgirl and India's first Power Brand Film Journalist. After working with Times of India (Mumbai Mirror) as assistant editor, he worked with Pritish Nandy Communication as vice president and wrote columns in Midday and Ananda Bazar Patrika. Later he worked as Associate Producer in Zee TV finite series Bin Kuch Kahe.

He is best known for writing India's first coffee table book on any actress, Hema Malini - Diva Unveiled , which was published by Magna Books in 2005. [14] He was the assistant producer of the TV series Bin Kuch Kahe aired on Zee TV.

In 2019 he made his debut as filmmaker with Cakewalk starring Esha Deol in the lead role. In 2020 his film Season's Greetings, a tribute to Rituparno Ghosh fetched him national and international accolades. The film also marked return of former Miss India Celina Jaitly Haag into cinema. In 2021 he won the Best Human Rights Film at Cardiff International Film Festival for his film Rickshawala. As an author he penned six books, in English and Hindi languages. His biography Beyond The Dreamgirl published by HarperCollins India, was released by Deepika Padukone in Mumbai. [15] The foreword of the book was written by Prime Minister of India Mr Narendra Modi.

He had also penned a biography, Sanjay Dutt - One Man Many Lives published by Rupa Books. [16] [17]

She was a member of the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka from 2011 to 2012, subsequent to her nomination to that chamber from 2003 to 2009 as a member of the BJP. Primarily known for her work in Hindi films, she has starred in both comic and dramatic roles, and is one of the most popular and successful leading actresses of mainstream Hindi cinema.

Hema Malini - Diva Unveiled is a biographical book about Bollywood actress Hema Malini, written by film journalist Ram Kamal Mukherjee in 2005. Mukherjee wrote it while he was working as a senior correspondent for Stardust. The book was released by Magna Publishing Co. Ltd., owned by media baron Nari Hira. The foreword of the book was written by Amitabh Bachchan.

Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl is a biography by the journalist and film director Ram Kamal Mukherjee, edited by Nooshin Mowla. Divided into 23 chapters, it chronicles Hema Malini's life and career. The book describes her background and personal life, including her birth in Ammankudi in 1948, her early years in New Delhi, her studies in Madras, and her marriage to the actor Dharmendra—with whom she has two daughters —in 1980. Her 50-year-long acting, dancing, filmmaking, magazine editing, and political career are also detailed. The book was published by HarperCollins on 10 October 2017.

Baghban is the soundtrack album to the 2003 film of the same name directed by Ravi Chopra and produced by his father B. R. Chopra starring Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini. The soundtrack featured nine songs composed by Aadesh Shrivastava with lyrics written by Sameer, and was released under the T-Series label on 3 September 2003 to positive reviews.
