Ramkrishna Nagar, most commonly known as R.K Nagar, is a small municipality township situated around 47km from Sribhumi, India. The topography of the area comprises undulating hillocks. It is well connected by bus service from Sribhumi and shared taxis run by private operators.^{[ citation needed ]}

This town is under jurisdiction of Sribhumi. The only institution for higher education is Ramkrishna Nagar College which opened in 1964. Now it offers courses in science and humanities. There is a small town under this called Kadamtala about 2 km from Ramkrishna Nagar. Access to this place is from Hailakandi, Silchar, and other places by bus route is available. It is possible to get a train from Anipur Railway Station, approximately 5 km away from the main town.^{[ citation needed ]}

Geography

The place is mostly covered by small altitude hills. There are also some green tea gardens near the town.^{[ citation needed ]} A hanging bridge connected Ramkrishna Nagar to the Ratabari area; the bridge collapsed in October 2021.^[3] Due to the proximity to Mizoram, on the border with Myanmar, the township has seen a number of arrests of drug-traffickers.^[4]^[5]

Education

Ramakrishna Nagar has a number of government, as well as private schools, at both primary as well as secondary level. Schools in the area include Ramkrishna Vidyapith H.S School, Kadamtala High School, Girls High School, G.C Paul Memorial Academy, Dreamland High School, Ideal home English Medium High School, Saraswati Vidyamandir, Pranabananda Vidyamandir, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, etc. Recently Ramkrishna Nagar junior College was opened which is privately funded institute and the stream of commerce was introduced in 10+2 level in Ramkrishna Nagar for the first time. For degree courses there is one college which is Ramkrishna Nagar college which provides degree courses in science and humanities which is affiliated to Assam university which provides pass and honours courses in various stream. There is also one private college named G.C Paul College of Education situated 3-4 km away from main town which provides B.Ed.,D.el.ed degree courses in Arts. This institution along with G.C Paul Memorial Academy (school) was founded by former Ramkrishna Nagar College Principal, Mr. K.R Ranjan Paul.^{[ citation needed ]} The Karimganj Medical College and Hospital was inaugurated on 1 March 2024 by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in Ramkrishna Nagar, Kadamtala.

Local events and festivals

Viking Fair and Book fairs are held regularly at R.K Nagar. Every year Durga Puja is celebrated with large gatherings of people. On the occasion of Independence Day and Republic Day, a parade is performed by the 4th Assam NCC Unit cadets of Ramkrishna Nagar College along with the police officers and selected students of the local schools in front of the Circle Officer and Officer-in-charge of Police.^{[ citation needed ]}

Sport

Inter-state Football championships are famous in Ramkrishna Nagar.^{[ citation needed ]} Teams from Tripura, Bangladesh, Shillong also participate in the events. Inter-school football matches and local matches are also played on regular basis. Red ball cricket is also popular in Ramkrishna Nagar.^{[ citation needed ]} Nowadays, Women football matches are also played.^{[ citation needed ]} All these matches are played in Netaji Baag, Ramkrishna Nagar.

Amenities

It has a basic primary health care center with ambulances. The area also has its own police station which was established in 1994 and a fire brigade station.

The Barak River or Barbakro flows 900 kilometres (560 mi) through the states of Manipur, Mizoram and Assam in India. It flows into Bangladesh where it bifurcates into the Surma river and the Kushiyara river which converge again to become the Meghna river before forming the Ganges Delta. Assam University is a central public university located at Silchar, Assam, India. It was founded in the year 1994 by the provisions of an act enacted by the Parliament of India. Former Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha is the Chancellor, the Governor of Assam is the Chief Rector and the President of India is acting as the Visitor of the university. The Bengali Language Movement of Barak Valley was a protest against the decision of the Government of Assam to make Assamese the state's sole official language, even though most Barak Valley residents speak Bengali. About 80% of the valley's residents are ethnic Bengalis, and the Bengali population in the Barak Valley region consists of both Hindus and Muslims in about equal number, constituting the overwhelming majority of the population. There is also a substantial minority of native tribes and immigrants from other parts of India.

Himanta Biswa Sarma is an Indian politician and lawyer serving as the 15th and current Chief Minister of Assam since 2021. A former member of the Indian National Congress, Sarma joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on 23 August 2015 and soon was made convenor of NEDA. He is a five time Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from Jalukbari, having been elected since 2001.

Katakhal is a town and railway station in Hailakandi tehsil of Hailakandi district in the Indian state of Assam. The village is named after the Katakhal River which originates in Bhairabi after three other rivers merge. The river ends at Kalinagar Village falling into Barak river. The Hailakandi district is one of the three districts of Southern Assam in the Barak Valley.

Kripanath Mallah is an Indian politician serving as the Member of Parliament in the 18th Lok Sabha from Karimganj constituency of Assam. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He had been elected in Assam Legislative Assembly election in 2011 and 2016 from Ratabari constituency.

Barak Valley Engineering College (BVEC) is a state government engineering college located in Karimganj, Assam. It was established on 14 August 2017 by Assam Government at Karimganj district, Assam. It is affiliated to Assam Science and Technology University. On 2 March 2011, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi laid the foundation stone of the Barak Valley Engineering College in Karimganj district, which was proposed by the Assam Government officially.

Karimganj College, established in 1946, is one of the oldest undergraduate, coeducational college situated in Karimganj, Assam and is affiliated with the Assam University.

Ramkrishna Nagar College, initially affiliated to Guwahati University and in 1994, it came under the affiliation of Assam University, Silchar. It is a general degree college situated at Ramkrishna Nagar, in Karimganj, Assam, India.

Dullabcherra a township located in Karimganj district in the Indian state of Assam. It is 375 kilometres south of the state capital Guwahati and 57 kilometres south of the district headquarters Karimganj.
