Ranjith Kumar, popularly known as Ranjith Bajpe is an Indian film director and Screen Writer known for his work in Tulu cinema. [1] He is best known for directing First International [2] Tulu film Nirel (2014) [3] which won 5 awards including the best movie award at Tulu Cinemotsava 2015. [4] He also written directed Dhand (2015) [5] which is the first Tulu language movie released in Israel [6] Australia and UK. Ranjith Bajpe usually casts new actors for his movies. [7]
Ranjith Bajpe was born on 9 December 1985, in Bajpe, in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka State. During his school days he acted in dramas and skits. His father's love of Yakshagana and brother's passion for drama contributed to his passion for movies. Currently working in Dubai, he is the only Tulu director who works on movies during annual leave of his company. [8]

Bajpe is a locality in Mangalore city of Dakshina Kannada district in the state of Karnataka, now also known as Bajpe Town, India. It is around 18 km (11 mi) from the city of Mangalore. The Mangalore International Airport is located at Bajpe and was previously known as the Bajpe Aerodrome. City bus number 47 connects Bajpe to State Bank. There are a number of villages surrounding Bajpe, for which it serves as a hub. The nearby villages to which Bajpe serves as hub are Permude, Hosabettu, Kinnigoli, Kalamundkur and Kateel. Bajpe is derived from the Tulu word, Bija da Appe since it was famous for its agricultural market in olden days.

Tulu cinema, also known as Coastalwood, is a part of Indian cinema. The Tulu film industry produces five to seven films annually. The first Tulu film was Enna Thangadi released in 1971. Earlier, these films were released in theatres across the Tulu Nadu region. Tulu film industry has grown to such an extent that films are being released simultaneously in Mangalore, Udupi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Middle East. The critically acclaimed Tulu film Suddha won the award for the best Indian Film at the Osian's Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema held in New Delhi in 2006. Nirel (transl. Shadow) is a Tulu-language film directed by Ranjith Bajpe and produced jointly by Shodhan Prasad and San Poojary, starring Anoop Sagar, Varuna Shetty, Deepthi, Sachin Padil, Deepak Paladka. This will be the first film produced overseas and shot completely in Gulf Region. The film is based on the Kannada Script "Nadu Naduve" by Karthik Gowda and later converted to Tulu by Ranjith Bajpe. Karthik Gowda also wrote the screenplay for the movie, and dialogues written by Ranjith Bajpe. Cast for the movie was totally selected by an audition at Fortune Grand Hotel Dubai. The people behind "Nirel" is a group of four friends, San Poojary, Ranjith Bajpe, Rajneesh Amin and Sachin Padil.
