Tulu cinema, also known as Coastalwood, is a part of Indian cinema. The Tulu film industry produces five to seven films annually. The first Tulu film was Enna Thangadi released in 1971. Nirel (transl. Shadow) is a Tulu-language film directed by Ranjith Bajpe and produced jointly by Shodhan Prasad and San Poojary, starring Anoop Sagar, Varuna Shetty, Deepthi, Sachin Padil, Deepak Paladka. This will be the first film produced overseas and shot completely in Gulf Region. The film is based on the Kannada Script "Nadu Naduve" by Karthik Gowda and later converted to Tulu by Ranjith Bajpe. Karthik Gowda also wrote the screenplay for the movie, and dialogues written by Ranjith Bajpe. Cast for the movie was totally selected by an audition at Fortune Grand Hotel Dubai. The people behind "Nirel" is a group of four friends, San Poojary, Ranjith Bajpe, Rajneesh Amin and Sachin Padil.

The film is presented by Lakshman K Ameen under the banner of Sankri Motion Pictures. The film's soundtracks was composed by B Bhaskar Rao, while the score was composed by Manikanth Kadri. The film was released on 11 January 2019. The film won Karnataka State Film Awards for Best Regional Language Film, Best Director, and Best Singer.
Pattanaje is a 2017 Indian Tulu language film directed and Produced by Thonse Vijay Kumar Shetty, under the banner of KalaJagattu Creations.
