Prior to the amendment of Tamil Nadu Entertainments Tax Act 1939 on 27 September 2011, Gross was 115 per cent of Nett for films with non-Tamil titles. Post-amendment, Gross jumped to 130 per cent of Nett for films with non-Tamil titles and U certificates as well. [1] Commercial Taxes Department disclosed 59.43 crore in entertainment tax revenue for the year. [2]

Yuvan Shankar Raja is an Indian film score and soundtrack composer and singer-songwriter. He mainly scores music for Tamil films along with few Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films. Considered a versatile composer, he is particularly known for his use of Western music elements and often credited with having introduced hip hop to the Tamil film and music industry and started the "era of remixes" in Tamil Nadu which included mixed EDM and jazz. Prashanth Thiagarajan, known professionally as Prashanth, is an Indian actor and businessman, known for his works predominantly in Tamil cinema. Besides Tamil films, he has also appeared in few Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam films. At the peak of his career in the late 1990s, Prashanth was one of the popular actors in South India. He has won a Kalaimamani Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu. The son of actor-director Thiagarajan, Prashanth began his career at 17 by appearing in Vaigasi Poranthachu (1990) and went on to feature in other films including Balu Mahendra's Vanna Vanna Pookkal (1992), R. K. Selvamani's Chembaruthi (1992), K. Rushendra Reddy's Tholi Muddhu (1993), and Mani Ratnam's action-comedy Thiruda Thiruda (1993). Prashanth rose to stardom with Shankar's romantic comedy Jeans (1998) in which he played a dual role alongside Aishwarya Rai. The success of this film saw him garner opportunities to work in bigger film projects and in the late 1990s, he featured in a series of breakthrough films such as Kannedhirey Thondrinal (1998), Kaadhal Kavithai (1998), Jodi (1999), Parthen Rasithen (2000) and Piriyadha Varam Vendum (2001).

Trisha Krishnan is an Indian actress who works predominantly in Tamil and Telugu films. She gained prominence after winning the 1999 Miss Chennai pageant, which marked her entry into Cinema. Trisha is the recipient of several accolades. Trisha is often referred as the "Queen of South India" or "The South Queen" for her contributions to South Indian Cinema. She has been ranked among the top actresses in South Indian Cinema by The Times of India.

Mohan Ravi, better known by his stage name Jayam Ravi, is an Indian actor who works in the Tamil cinema. He has won a Filmfare Award and three SIIMA Awards. The son of veteran film editor A. Mohan, Ravi made his lead acting debut in Jayam. He has won one Tamil Nadu State Film Award and one Filmfare Award South, respectively.

<i>Thiruvilaiyaadal Aarambam</i> 2006 Indian film

Thiruvilaiyaadal Aarambam is a 2006 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy film directed by Boopathy Pandian and produced by Vimala Geetha. Dhanush and Shriya Saran play the lead roles, while Prakash Raj, Karunas and Saranya Ponvannan play other pivotal roles. The film, which had music composed by D. Imman, was released on 15 December 2006.

His second film Thanga Meengal (2013) also won critical praise and three National Film Awards. He released his next film Taramani in August 2017 which was critically acclaimed and a box-office hit. His fourth film Peranbu starring Mammootty was premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam in January 2018, which was also critically acclaimed.

<i>Mankatha</i> 2011 film by Venkat Prabhu

Mankatha (transl. Gambling) is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language action crime film written and directed by Venkat Prabhu, and produced by Dayanidhi Azhagiri under Cloud Nine Movies. The film stars Ajith Kumar, in his 50th credited film, leading an ensemble cast which includes Arjun, Trisha, Lakshmi Rai, Anjali, Andrea Jeremiah, Ashwin Kakumanu, Vaibhav, Premji Amaren, Mahat Raghavendra, Jayaprakash, Aravind Akash and Subbu Panchu. Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the musical score and soundtrack, with Sakthi Saravanan working as the cinematographer and the duo Praveen K. L. and N. B. Srikanth as editors. Set in Mumbai, the film revolves around a heist of cricket betting money, carried out by a gang of four thieves, who are joined by a fifth unknown man, and its aftermath.

<i>Thaandavam</i> 2012 Indian film

Thaandavam (transl. Dance) is a 2012 Indian Tamil-language neo-noir action thriller film written and directed by A. L. Vijay. The film stars an ensemble cast with Vikram, Jagapati Babu, Anushka Shetty, Amy Jackson, Lakshmi Rai, Nassar, Santhanam, Raj Arjun and Saranya in pivotal roles It is produced by UTV Motion Pictures and features music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar. Thaandavam was released worldwide on 28 September 2012.

<i>Moondru Per Moondru Kadal</i> 2013 Indian film

Moondru Per Moondru Kadal is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language romance film co-edited, co-written and directed by Vasanth. It stars Arjun, Cheran, Vimal, Surveen Chawla, Muktha and Lasini. It marks Tamil debuts of Chawla and Lasini. The film features music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Cinematography and editing were handled by Bhojan K. Dinesh and S. N. Fazil respectively. The film was released on 1 May 2013.
