Pad Man is a 2018 social comedy-drama film written and directed by R. Balki. A co-production between India and the United States, it stars Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, and Radhika Apte in the lead roles with an ensemble supporting cast. The film is based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist and entrepreneur from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu who made low-cost sanitary pads for women in rural areas. His journey was chronicled by Twinkle Khanna in her fictional story The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad.
The Accidental Prime Minister is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language film directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte and written by Mayank Tewari, based on the 2014 memoir of the same name by Sanjaya Baru. It was produced by the Bohra Bros under Rudra Production (UK), in association with Jayantilal Gada under the banner of Pen India Limited. It stars Anupam Kher as Dr. Manmohan Singh, the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014 under the United Progressive Alliance.
Kesari (transl. Saffron) is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language war film.
Hamid is an Indian drama film directed by Aijaz Khan. The film stars Rasika Dugal, Vikas Kumar and Talha Arshad Reshi in major roles, and is an adaptation of the play Phone No. 786 by Mohd. Amin Bhat. The story revolves around a seven-year-old Hamid who learns that 786 is God's number and decides to try and reach out to God by dialing this number. He wants to talk to his father, who his classmate tells him has gone to Allah. One fine day the phone call is answered, and two lives shattered in the strife of Kashmir find a way to be complete again. The film is produced by Yoodlee Films, a venture of Saregama. The official trailer was released on 10 October 2018. Global premiere of Hamid was held at the Jio MAMI 20th Mumbai Film Festival. The film went on to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Urdu at the 66th National Film Awards hosted in December 2019.
The Tashkent Files – Who Killed Shastri? is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language thriller film about the death of former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri; written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri. The film stars Shweta Basu Prasad, Naseeruddin Shah, Mithun Chakraborty, Pankaj Tripathi, Pallavi Joshi, Prakash Belawadi and Mandira Bedi. It was released on 12 April 2019 to negative reviews but emerged as a box-office sleeper hit and received two National Film Awards.
Super 30 is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language biographical drama film directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Phantom Films, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Reliance Entertainment and HRX Films. It stars Hrithik Roshan as mathematics teacher and educator Anand Kumar, who develops an educational program of the same title. Nandish Sandhu, Virendra Saxena, Mrunal Thakur, Pankaj Tripathi, Aditya Srivastava and Amit Sadh play pivotal roles.
Sonchiriya is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language action film co-written and directed by Abhishek Chaubey, starring Manoj Bajpayee in a guest appearance, Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Ashutosh Rana and Ranvir Shorey. The film presents a rooted tale set in Chambal. Its dialogues are entirely in the Bundeli dialect.
Badla (transl. Revenge) is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language mystery thriller film directed by Sujoy Ghosh and starring Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and Amrita Singh. The film is produced by Universal Entertainment, Red Chillies Entertainment and Azure Entertainment and is an official remake of the 2016 Spanish film The Invisible Guest. The story follows an interview between a lawyer and a businesswoman, in which the latter insists that she is being wrongfully framed for the murder of her lover.
Bombairiya is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language black comedy crime-drama film directed by Pia Sukanya and written by Michael E. Ward, with story by Ward, Sukanya and Aarti Bagdi. Ward was also the producer. The film stars Radhika Apte, Siddhanth Kapoor, Akshay Oberoi, Adil Hussain, Ravi Kishan, Amit Sial, Ajinkya Deo and Shilpa Shukla. It follows Meghna, a native of Mumbai who gets embroiled in a series of events after her phone is stolen. The film was released on 18 January 2019.
Good Newwz is a 2019 Indian comedy film directed by Raj Mehta in his directotal debut and produced by Dharma Productions and Cape of Good Films. It stars Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani and revolves around two couples' tryst with in vitro fertilization.
