Sumeet Vyas (born 27 July 1983) is an Indian actor and writer of films, web series and theatre. His breakthrough role was Mikesh Chaudhary in TVF's 2014 web series Permanent Roommates . [1] [2] Vyas has since played supporting roles in Bollywood films including English Vinglish, [3] Parched and Guddu Ki Gun , and Veere Di Wedding . [4] He has his first starring role in 2016 drama film Ribbon ; his performance was well received by critics. [5] Apart from acting in films and television programmes, Vyas also appears in theatre productions in India.

Early life

Vyas was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan [6] to writer B.M Vyas and Sudha Vyas. He spent his initial years there before moving to Mumbai to pursue his passion for acting and writing. He has attended R.D. National College, Mumbai. During his school days, Sumeet aspired to become a pilot or a computer engineer. But, he had a passion for acting and writing also. Later, choosing the second option, he gave up his college studies and started working as an assistant editor in an editing studio in Mumbai. [6]

Acting career

Vyas made his television debut with a small role in the Doordarshan serial Woh Huye Na Humare. [7] He then starred in Rehna Hai Teri Palkon Ki Chhaon Mein as Kartik Pratapsingh. He has been actively involved in the theatre since his early days as an actor. [8] He also had a major role in the TV series Stories by Rabindranath Tagore . He made his Bollywood debut in the movie Jashn in 2009. Then he went on to act in movie English Vinglish . He has worked in more than 30 movies, [9] including Guddu Ki Gun , Parched , Aurangzeb , and Kajarya .

He worked in many web series, including Permanent Roommates and TVF Tripling , the latter of which he also co-wrote. He has written the Y-Films web series "Bang Baaja Baaraat".

He starred in a Web Campaign by BigRock in 2017. [10]

Personal life

Vyas is an active supporter of theatre and claims to enjoy working as a theatre artist rather than in Bollywood. He was married to actress Shivani Tanksale for 7 years. The couple divorced in 2017. [11] He married TV actress Ekta Kaul on 15 September 2018. [12] They have a son, Ved, born in 2020. [13]

English Vinglish is a 2012 Indian Hindi-language comedy-drama film written and directed by Gauri Shinde. The film stars Sridevi as Shashi Godbole, a small entrepreneur who makes snacks and sweets. Shashi enrolls in an English-speaking course to stop her husband and daughter mocking her lack of English skills and gains self-respect in the process. Shashi was written by Shinde, inspired by her mother. The film marked Sridevi's return to film acting after a 15-year hiatus post Judaai (1997); it also features Adil Hussain, French actor Mehdi Nebbou, and Priya Anand. Amitabh Bachchan makes a cameo appearance in the film's Hindi version, whereas Ajith Kumar replaced him the same portions of the film which was reshot for the Tamil-dubbed version.

TVF Tripling is an Indian Hindi-language web series created by The Viral Fever. It was developed by Sameer Saxena and written by Akarsh Khurana and Sumeet Vyas. The series star Vyas, Maanvi Gagroo and Amol Parashar in lead roles, along with Kunaal Roy Kapur, Nidhi Bisht, Kumud Mishra, and Shernaz Patel. It traces the story of three siblings, who together start a hilarious journey to find themselves and their relations. The first season has music and background score composed by Amar Mangrulkar, with cinematography and editing done by G. Srinivas Reddy, Anand Subbaiya and Tamojit Das respectively.
