Successful Stars of the Year

Mithun Chakraborty- The megastar continued his dominance with the superhits Main Balwaan, Jaal , Swarg se Sunder, Dilwaala, Karam Daata and Muddat.

Sridevi - Sridevi starred in Aakhree Raasta and gave a solo hit in Nagina. The latter established her as an actress who could guarantee a major box office success without a male co-star. She also received much praise for her special appearance on Jaanbaaz.

Jaya Prada - Continued her success at box office with Swarg Se Sundar & Aakhree Raasta. Both of which cemented her star status & proved acting caliber.

Dharmendra- He featured in the successful Main Balwaan.

Anil Kapoor - Made waves in the year's top grosser Karma, and the successful Janbaaz.

Jeetendra - Starred in the successful Swarag Se Sunder.

Govinda- Debuted with superhits and chartbusters like Love 86 and Ilzaam. He established himself as a dancing star , challenging the dominance of superstars like Mithun and Amitabh.

Amitabh Bacchan - Starred in the superhit "Aakhree Raasta" alongside Sridevi and Jaya Prada.

Sanjay Dutt - Had a successful comeback with the blockbuster Naam. Also starred in the hit film "Jeeva".

He was also awarded India's highest accolade in the field of cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2022, whose announcement came from the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in September 2024.

Aakhree Raasta is a 1986 Indian Hindi-language crime drama film written and directed by K. Bhagyaraj, presented by T. Rama Rao and produced by A. Purnachandra Rao both under banner Lakshmi Productions (Madras) (P).LTD. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan in a dual role, Jaya Prada, Sridevi and Anupam Kher. It was directed by the Tamil actor and director K. Bhagyaraj. It was revealed by Sridevi herself in one of her interviews that actress Rekha lent her voice for her in this movie.

Kajal Kiran is a former Indian actress and model, who is known for her work in Hindi films. Kiran made her debut starring in the film Hum Kisise Kum Naheen (1977) and appeared in almost 40 Hindi films and a handful of Malayalam films in a career spanning 13-14 years.

Muddat is a 1986 Indian Hindi-language thriller drama film directed by K. Bapaiah, starring Mithun Chakraborty, Jaya Prada, Padmini Kolhapure along with Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor and Asrani. The film was a remake of Telugu film Chattamtho Poratam. It was the highest grossing Indian film of 1986 in worldwide box office.

<i>English Vinglish</i> 2012 film by Gauri Shinde

English Vinglish is a 2012 Indian Hindi-language comedy-drama film written and directed by Gauri Shinde. The film stars Sridevi as Shashi Godbole, a small entrepreneur who makes snacks and sweets. Shashi enrolls in an English-speaking course to stop her husband and daughter mocking her lack of English skills and gains self-respect in the process. Shashi was written by Shinde, inspired by her mother. The film marked Sridevi's return to film acting after a 15-year hiatus post Judaai (1997); it also features Adil Hussain, French actor Mehdi Nebbou, and Priya Anand. Amitabh Bachchan makes a cameo appearance in the film's Hindi version, whereas Ajith Kumar replaced him the same portions of the film which was reshot for the Tamil-dubbed version.

Gangaa Jamunaa Saraswathi is 1988 Indian Hindi-language romantic action film directed by Manmohan Desai, produced by S. Ramanathan and starring Amitabh Bachchan as Ganga, Meenakshi Sheshadri as Jamuna, Jaya Prada as Saraswati. Supporting cast includes Mithun Chakraborty, Nirupa Roy, Amrish Puri.

Satyakim Yashpal, known professionally as Kim and Kim Yashpal, is an Indian retired actress and model. After a brief stint in modeling, her acting debut was Danny Denzongpa's horror film Phir Wahi Raat (1980). She followed this with supporting roles in the drama film Bulundi and Manmohan Desai's masala film Naseeb, and a leading role in Babbar Subhash's blockbuster dance film Disco Dancer (1982).
