Baburao Krishnarao Mestry, popularly known as Baburao Painter was an Indian filmmaker and artist. He was a man of many talents with proficiency in painting, sculpture, film production, photography, and mechanical engineering.

<i>Das Baje</i> 1942 Indian film

Das Baje, also called 10 O'Clock, is an Indian film. It was released in 1942. This was a debut direction for Raja Nene, a protege of V. Shantaram, and produced under Shantaram's Prabhat Film Company banner. The film was a bilingual, made in Hindi, and in the Marathi language as Daha Wajta. The music direction was by Keshavrao Bhole. The story was written by Kashyap and Pawar, with dialogues in Hindi by Ashant. The photography was by E. Mohammed. It starred Paresh Bannerji, Urmila and Vasant Thengdi in the lead roles, with Baby Shakuntala and Manajirao forming the supporting cast.

Chandulal Jesangbhai Shah was a famous director, producer and screenwriter of Indian films, who founded Ranjit Studios in 1929.

<i>Gopal Krishna</i> (1929 film) 1929 film

Gopal Krishna is an Indian religious silent film made in 1929. It was directed by V. Shantaram for his newly formed Prabhat Film Company. The film was a "solo debut" for Shantaram, after co-directing Netaji Palkar (1927) with K. Dhaiber for the Maharashtra Film Company. The story was written by Shivram Vashikar and the cast composed of Suresh, Kamaladevi, Anant Apte, Sakribai and G.R. Mane.

<i>Thokar</i> 1939 film

Thokar also called The Kick is 1939 Hindi/Urdu film directed by A. R. Kardar. Produced by Chandulal Shah for his production banner Ranjit Movietone, it had music by Gyan Dutt. The story writer was M. Sadiq, with cinematography by Gordhanbhi Patel. The cast included Kumar, Ishwarlal, Madhuri, Yakub, Noor Mohammed Charlie, Ram Marathe, Waheedan Bai and Dixit.

<i>Savkari Pash</i> 1925 film

Savkari Pash is Indian cinema's 1925 social melodrama silent film directed by Baburao Painter. V. Shantaram made his acting debut as the young village peasant in the film. Painter later remade Savkari Pash in 1936 as a talkie version. The story of the film was written by Narayan Hari Apte as suggested by Baburao Painter, and is referred to as a "milestone film" in Indian cinema. Along with Shantaram, the rest of the cast included Kamladevi, Zunzharrao Pawar, Kishabapu Bakre, K. Dhaiber and Shankarrao Bute.

Homi Master (?–1949) was an actor-director of early Indian cinema. His work extended from the silent era to the talkie era and up to his death. He produced his best films for Kohinoor Film Company and he has been referred to as "silent cinema's most successful film-maker".

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mazhar Khan (actor, born 1905)</span> Indian film actor, director and producer

Mazhar Khan was an actor, producer, and director in Indian Cinema. He began his career as a police officer, which he left to study law for a short period. After abandoning his studies, he came to Bombay and started his career in cinema with the silent film Fatal Garland (1928) opposite the top actress of the time, Ermeline. He became a popular actor, gaining success in several silent films. During his stint in silent films he worked with directors such as Bhagwati Prasad Mishra, Ezra Mir, Moti P. Bhagnani, R. S. Chowdhary, and M. D. Bhavnani. Magazines in the 1940s compared Khan to Hollywood actors such as Paul Muni, Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff.
