1. Amitabh Bachchan- With starring roles in hits like Ram Balram , Dostana and Shaan . Bachchan continued solidifying his megastar status.
2. Dharmendra- Apart from starring with Bachchan in Ram Balram , Dharmendra starred in Ali Baba Aur 40 Chor and The Burning Train .
3. Jeetendra- He had an extremely successful year, with hits like Jyoti Bane Jwala , Aasha , Maang Bharo Sajnaa , Judaai along with the multistarrer The Burning Train .
4. Vinod Khanna- Khanna starred in the top-grossing Qurbani with Feroz Khan and The Burning Train with Dharmendra and Jeetendra.
5. Shatrughan Sinha- Sinha played second fiddle to Bachchan in Shaan and Dostana .
6. Tina Munim got her breakthrough with the most anticipated movie, Karz . She also starred in Man Pasand which was moderately successful.

The film was a superhit at the box-office and became the fourth highest-grosser of 1980, behind Qurbani, Aasha and Ram Balram. Dostana was also the last successful film directed by Raj Khosla. It was remade in Tamil as Sattam with Kamal Haasan.

Adventures of Ali-Baba and the Forty Thieves is a 1980 Indian-Soviet film based on the Arabian Nights story of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, directed by Uzbek director Latif Faiziyev with Indian director Umesh Mehra. The film stars Indian actors Dharmendra, Hema Malini and Zeenat Aman alongside Russian, Caucasian and Central Asian actors. The storyline is slightly altered to extend as a long movie. The writers were Shanti Prakash Bakshi and Boris Saakov, the music was scored by musician R.D. Burman, and the Choreographer was P. L. Raj. It was the most successful Indian-Soviet co-production, becoming a success in both India and the Soviet Union.

Jyoti Bane Jwala is a 1980 Indian Hindi-language action film written and directed by Dasari Narayana Rao, and produced by Prasan Kapoor. It stars Jeetendra, Vinod Mehra, Waheeda Rehman, Moushumi Chatterjee, Sarika in the pivotal roles and music composed by Laxmikant–Pyarelal. The film is a remake of the Telugu film Katakatala Rudrayya. It was a commercial success and became one of the highest-grossing films of the year.
