Krithi Krishna Shetty, known popularly by her stage name Krithi Shetty, (born 21 September 2003) [1] is an Indian actress who works in Telugu and Tamil films. She made her Debut lead role in Uppena (2021) and went on to do many commercially successful films in many languages. [2] Shetty is a recipient of a Filmfare Award South and a SIIMA Award.
Krithi Shetty was born on 21 September 2003 in Mangalore, Karnataka, [3] to a Tulu-speaking Bunt family. [4] [5] [6] Her father is a businessman, and her mother is a fashion designer. [3] [7] She was brought up in Mumbai.[ citation needed ] During her academic career, she worked in commercials. [6]
Shetty made her debut in a lead role, aged 17, with the Telugu film Uppena [8] directed by Buchi Babu Sana and produced by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings. The film was commercially successful at the box office, collecting over ₹ 100 crore (US$11 million). [9] The Times of India 's Neeshitha Nyayapati wrote, "The debutants Vaisshnav and Krithi manage to pull off the intricacies of their characters well for the most part. [10]
Later that year, she appeared in the Telugu film Shyam Singha Roy opposite Nani. [11] Shyam Singha Roy received mixed to positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success grossing over ₹60 crore at the box office. [12] She next starred in Bangarraju opposite Naga Chaitanya. Bangarraju emerged as a successful film and grossed over ₹66 crore. [13] This was followed by a series of commercial failures in the latter half of 2022 and 2023 with her next film The Warriorr , directed by N.Lingusamy where she appeared opposite Ram Pothineni received negative reviews from critics and became a commercial failure. [14] Her next release in the same year was the Telugu film Macherla Niyojakavargam , directed by M. S. Rajashekhar Reddy [15] opened to negative reviews and failed at the box office. [16]
Her last release of 2022 was Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali which was directed by Mohana Krishna Indraganti where she co-starred with Sudheer Babu, [17] [18] opened to mixed reviews and became a commercial failure at the box office. [19] She then made her Tamil-language debut in 2023 with Venkat Prabhu's bilingual Custody (2023) co-starring Naga Chaitanya. [20] Custody opened to mixed reviews and did not do well at the box office. [21]
In 2024, she starred in Manamey alongside Sharwanand and although the film opened to mixed reviews, it became a commercial success at the box office. [22]
