History

Raw Silk first signed to West End Records, which was once a popular garage label, where they recorded moderate hits. Their songs were remixed by post-disco/R&B production duo Nick Martinelli and David Todd.[ citation needed ]

Raw Silk consisted of two Crown Heights Affair members, Ron Dean Miller and Bert Reid, and three female vocalists; Jessica Cleaves, Tenita Jordan and Sybil Thomas. They are best known for their 1982 garage-boogie hit, "Do It to the Music". Their production was somewhat successful, "Do It to the Music" reached number five on the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, "Just in Time" (1983) peaked lower, at number 40 on the same chart. UK garage, abbreviated as UKG, is a genre of electronic dance music which originated in England in the early to mid-1990s. The genre was most clearly inspired by garage house, but also incorporates elements from R&B, jungle and dance-pop. It is defined by percussive, shuffled rhythms with syncopated hi-hats, cymbals and snares, and may include either 4/4 house kick patterns or more irregular "2-step" rhythms. Garage tracks also commonly feature 'chopped up' and time-stretched or pitch-shifted vocal samples complementing the underlying rhythmic structure at a tempo usually around 130 BPM.

A lyric sample of it was also used in Gat Decor's song "Passion", as well as in Armand Van Helden's 2007 hit "I Want Your Soul".
