Reba Rakshit (Bengali : রেবা রক্ষিত; 1933–2010) was an Indian bodybuilder and exponent of yoga who was a pupil of Bishnu Charan Ghosh at the College of Physical Culture in Kolkata and specialized in withstanding heavy weights upon her body. She would let fully loaded cars or elephants pass over her body. [1] She was the first Indian woman to lift an elephant upon her chest. [2]
Reba was born in Comilla in a Bengali Hindu family sometime in the early 1930s. [3] From girlhood she had interest in physical culture. After the Partition, she migrated to Kolkata along with her family. [4] In Kolkata, she joined the akhada of Bishnu Charan Ghosh, where she trained alongside Monotosh Roy and Kamal Bhandari. In the early 1950s she was awarded the title Miss Bengal for bodybuilding. [3]
Reba began to perform in the circus [5] from the early fifties. One of her astonishing feats was lifting elephants upon her chest. She continued this act till the mid 1960s. She was associated with Kamala Circus, International Circus and Gemini Circus. [3] She also used to perform at the local clubs in Kolkata during the Durga Puja. [6] She was also a good shooter. In her later life, she became a physical trainer and was associated with social works. [3]
She was awarded Padmashri for her achievements. The Nawab of Hyderabad bestowed upon her the title of Devi Chaudhurani. [3]

Manohar Aich was an Indian bodybuilder. He was the second Indian to win any Mr. Universe title. He did so in the 1952 NABBA Universe Championships. At 4 feet 11 inches (1.50 m) tall, he was given the name "Pocket Hercules". Aich has been cited by historians as an influence on Indian physical culture.
Monotosh Roy was an Indian bodybuilder, who held the Mr. Universe title in Group III Amateur Division in 1951. Roy was the first Indian and Asian to be awarded the Mr. Universe title.

She played the role of Bangabala in Ritwik Ghatak's Jukti Takko Aar Gappo. She is the daughter of Sombhu Mitra and Tripti Mitra, who were also theatre personalities.
Meghe Dhaka Tara is a 2013 Indian Bengali film directed by Kamaleswar Mukherjee and made under Shree Venkatesh Films banners. The film is inspired by the life and works of Bengali film director Ritwik Ghatak. The entire film is in black and white except the last scene which has been shot in colour. In this film Saswata Chatterjee plays the character of Nilkantha Bagchi and Ananya Chatterjee plays the role of Durga, Nilkantha's wife. The film was released on 14 June 2013. Besides giving an account of Ghatak's life, the film also depicts the socio-political environment of contemporary West Bengal during the Tebhaga and Naxalite movements.
The Bengali Language Movement of Manbhum was a cultural and political movement that took place in the then Bihar Province from 1912 to 1956. Post independence, between 1948 and 1956, the language movement spread intensely among the Bengalis of Manbhum. Through this movement created around the Bengali language, the public demand for the establishment of Bengali as one of the official languages of the Bihar, mainly Manbhum, was expressed. On 7 June 2013, a 20-year-old college student was abducted, gang-raped and murdered in Kamduni village, 16km from Barasat, North 24 Parganas district about 20km from main Kolkata. In January 2016 the accused were sentenced to death and life imprisonment.

Bishnu Charan Ghosh was an Indian bodybuilder and Hathayogi. He was the younger brother of yogi Paramahansa Yogananda, who wrote the 1946 book Autobiography of a Yogi. In 1923, he founded the College of Physical Education, Calcutta. His writings influenced the development of modern yoga as exercise in India and Bikram Choudhury founded Bikram Yoga based on his teachings.

Manu Munsi, also spelt as Manu Munshi or Monu Munshi, born as Manomohan Munshi, was an Indian painter and sculptor known for his works on Indian Mother-of-pearl art during the mid-to-end of the 20th century. Some of his works in mother of pearl include Gandhiji's Noakhali Expedition, Indira Gandhi and Nur Jahan.
Jagtai Choudhury Bari is the residential house of the erstwhile zamindar family based in Jagtai of Murshidabad district in West Bengal, India. The Choudhury estate was established by Rani Gaurangini Devi in the 18th century in British-occupied India. The first zamindar of this family was Babu Keshto Mohun Choudhury. The last zamindar of Jagtai was Shri Sailendranath Choudhury until the abolition of zamindars by the West Bengal State Acquisition and Tenancy Act of 1950.
